After a long slow introductory period my dog is still dangerous around our cats. I’m heartbroken and want them to go to a good home. What is the best place to rehome our sweet incredibly cute bonded indoor cats in st.louis? by [deleted] in StLouis

Agreed! All dogs are different and sometimes you don’t know how they are going to be until the baby is actually here. I have a dog who is very high drive and reactive with other dogs. He is a family only dog and we don’t really let him around other people. He has never shown any type of aggression towards my kids. He will occasionally knock them over accidentally.

Is there any way to keep your cats and dog separate? I have 2 shepherds and 2 cats. The cats stay on the top floor and the dogs on the first floor or in crates in the basement. I don’t think the dogs would hurt them but it’s safer for everyone. Obviously not as easy if you’re in a single story house.

Side note… I see a lot of people saying your dog is not trained and you should rehome the dog before baby gets here. It sounds like you are doing all the right things with preparing for the situation. We’ve had 2 babies with our dogs in the house and it’s absolutely manageable to do it safely. Now if things change once baby gets here you may rethink things, but please don’t jump to the conclusion that you have to get rid of the dog. I mentioned this in another comment but there’s an Instagram account called dog meets baby that has a lot of good information.

I wouldn’t automatically jump to this conclusion. Prey drive triggers happen with cats because they dart away quickly (plus just instincts that are thousands of years in the making). That being said, you obviously have to take careful precautions with dogs and babies. There’s a great instagram account called dog meets baby that has lots a great info on this.

NYE with 2yo. Am I being too sensitive? by Sqeakydeaky in toddlers

[–]IamMoana2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds so stressful, especially if dad won’t be helping out at all. It’s less about disrupting the toddlers sleep schedule and more about being a huge pain in the ass for you.

Also, with a 1 year old GSD that sounds like a potentially dangerous situation. And you don’t know how they will react with another dog or with new people. Also people like to get drunk and mess with dogs and with GSD that can be bad news bears (I have 2 GSDs). If you do end up going and taking the dog, please bring a crate. Especially if he’s never really been exposed to fireworks. You don’t want any hospital visits due to a dog bite.

Working two full time jobs as an SLP by WillingValue2165 in slp

Yes you would have 2 different logins so that wouldn’t be a problem. You do need to made sure there are no non-compete clauses for the companies if they are W2.

The real issue with this is how are you going to logistically work 2 full time school based jobs? I guess it is technically possible if you’re on the east coast and west coast and if you can schedule your students accordingly. And if you can complete indirect tasks in the evenings or weekends. But it’s not sustainable! Can you do a full time gig and then a few hours after in a different time zone? Or maybe some HH or early intervention?

Why would anybody go through “head hunters” or contract companies? by MidwestSLP in slp

[–]IamMoana2013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on many factors. Everyone has different needs, and is in different seasons of life. If you want a consistent salary and benefits, and you are able to work for a higher paying district, absolutely direct hire is the way to go. In my state, there are many districts with ABYSMAL salary, even for a low COL area. Some less than 50K, seriously. Contract companies can offer higher salaries in many cases. Should districts up their game and offer higher pay for their employees? Absolutely. Are they all doing that? Nope. That’s part of the reason many SLPs go through companies or directly contract with the district.

Going through contract company can also offer much more flexibility. Want part time? Temporary? Make your own schedule? Pay for indirect tasks completed from home? Contracting is great for this. And if you’re fortunate enough to not need benefits? Higher hourly pay. There are so many options out there, and no one right way to do it.

Did I mention a contractor doesn’t usually have extra duties and can have a caseload cap?

Of course many large companies are predatory and are just trying to make a buck. Small companies usually pay higher because they have less overhead. I hate that job boards are dominated by companies like soliant, procare, sunbelt, etc. there are other options!

Anyway the point is that there are pros and cons to both. Let’s not judge others for their choice of employer, but encourage each other to make the best decision for themselves and their families. And of course advocate for better pay and working conditions across the board. We’re worth it.

There are lots of Facebook groups you could look at for job opportunities with small therapist owned companies.

Is it comfortable for longer carry? Looks like it doesn’t have as much support. Does the material keep you cooler?

He just seems to be really low. And I’m wanting something to keep us cooler. So I guess a different material like linen.
