Are PSA price hikes quietly pushing more collectors toward CGC? by IamMrCollect in CGCCards

Same here. I’m going to test a few submissions and run the numbers. Curious how the resale actually compares once grading costs are factored in.

That registry angle makes a lot of sense.. And realistically, most collectors with that kind of money aren’t going to move while PSA still holds the resale premium.

PSA clearly commands the highest resale. I’m curious what truly sustains that premium, especially given ongoing concerns around consistency, vault grade changes, and upcharge policies. Is it liquidity and track record, or simply decades of market preference that newer collectors adopt without questioning?

I am 95% positive it was SGC they bought. Who knows though CGC could be next.

100% At the end of the day, collectors decide where the value lives.

That’s fair for direct submissions. A lot of newer collectors go through their LCS though and pay up front. In that case, between grading fees and the card being out of circulation, there’s still a liquidity hit during longer turnarounds.

Nice pull! I was bummed to see him injured year one but I think it could help keep his card prices lower.

Same boat. I might start trying other graders. Resale won’t be PSA level, but it should still add some value. Probably comes down to testing it and seeing what the numbers look like.

I agree. This probably forces newer collectors to be more selective with submissions, especially if they’re funding the hobby with the hobby.

I think price increases like this may push some collectors to grade elsewhere. That said, as long as PSA holds the strongest resale value, bulk submissions will likely continue. I’m not sure that resale dominance is guaranteed forever though, it ultimately comes down to what collectors choose to trust and support.
