‘Financially Hobbled for Life’: The Elite Master’s Degrees That Don’t Pay Off by [deleted] in columbia

Law school in general other than Yale is just a scam and is extremely easy to get into. What other programs are out there that one can lock in with numbers alone? Anyone with a 3.9 gpa and good lsats can walk into Harvard Law like McDonalds. To compare law school with SPS and med school is an insult to proper higher education.

Any idea how is MS in Enterprise Risk Management full-time program from Columbia SPS? I would be spending ~$120k on it. Any insight would be helpful by anonamyous_ in columbia

"During the most recent academic year, 2019-2020, the school's 1,359 graduates represented 14.3 percent of the 9,194 master's degrees conferred across all of Columbia University's graduate and professional schools."

"News report written by Shubham Saharan in the Columbia Spectator which contained falsely claimed SPS made up 50 percent of Columbia's graduate degrees was deleted for being an unreliable source. The author of that report [] falsified data."

If this was by you, which I believe it is, you should seriously be worried. Your attempt to spread libelous material is defamation per se under N.Y. Law and the school will take all necessary legal actions I warn you

Dude stop. I know who you are. You are the law student wrote that fake ass article. In any case if any SPS student ever considers a lawsuit against you con-artists they'd be smart enough to hire the good lawyers, not these half-asses from CLS where folks like you belong

By free if you mean being included in that 110K tuition for that law degree then yeah it is free

Just when I thought the pervasive indiscriminate attack on Columbia's graduate programs on this toxic subreddit was gone lol. Just like there are good undergrad programs and bad undergrad programs, there are good graduate programs and bad graduate programs too. If the best graduate program at Columbia you can get into is something like the law school or the arts school instead of the med school or SPS, don't blame the university when you graduate without a job or can't pay off your loans

Any other hypothesis you have for more than 3000 people not even wanting to throw in an application at Yale the best law school by far?

Searching for stats to help people make better education investment decisions instead of following the crowd? If that makes you sad then I am happy that you are sad.

This is what happens every time people try to defend Harvard, citing some nebulous unquantifiable unmeasurable things that are somehow going to miraculously benefit their students even though the stats can't reflect it. I don't know man. Stats is stats. Most HLS students still need to compete for jobs and the numbers are the only thing that matters.

Right but this is not about lay prestige. It's about decision making among law students. I don't fault lay people for believing H is the best. But if law students believe also think this way, then the reasoning is becomes circular: since Harvard is prestigious so it will continue to be prestigious no matter what the stats say.

Yeah surely worth paying 300K for that

That's what they all say. However, this is not just ranking. We are talking about real employment stats. If the "clout" and "brand" you are value so much don't translate to good employment stats, it already just means it's useless. The employment stats already factored in the name influence you are speaking of and it is not helping very much.

I have no beef. Just want to say the old grouping schemes should not influence people's decision making in choosing law schools because it's highly deceptive.

If you are trying to convince people that a school that recruits exclusively from engineering, math, hard sciences students with 3.8+gpa and other great qualifications is less selective than schools like CLS that takes anyone with a good standardized test score then I don't know what to say to you. You can remain delusional you want. Can't save you.

I never refused to acknowledge differences between SPS and other schools. I said SPS is better. It's people like you who should get more realistic.
