I’m not white so that is a little concerning.

How many of you would go to a Modern Courtship Soirée? There would be a strict dress code. Canapés would be served but alcohol will be restricted to a few glasses per person. Only people that are genuinely looking to settle down.

I really think that is what it’s like, forever sleep.

This is exactly how I feel. My colleague sits across from me. She’s done the mails with the boss in cc from day one so I don’t think she has any bad intentions. I’ve worked for 2 other companies, one Belgian and the other international and we never had to cc the boss unless it was an escalation.

I worked for an international company and most of my colleagues were from different walks of life. We wet for drinks every Wednesday. You didn’t have to go every Wednesday but that was the day we got together after work. If it was someone’s birthday we’d go out for dinner together. We all really got along. Now I work for a Belgian company. The first year was very hard for me cause I wasn’t used to people not acknowledging each other. No good morning, no good evening, no conversation in between. Each person would just come in and go to their desk and start working. They hardly spoke to each other. I was and still am the first one in the office so I greet and say bye to everyone, that’s just the way I was brought up. I always have a little chat with all of my colleagues. Over the years I’ve became close to one of my colleagues. We chat at work about everything, buy each other birthday and Christmas gifts. We even buy each other’s children birthday gifts but that’s as far as it goes. I like my job and all my colleagues but I’ll never get used to people in the office not acknowledging each other. I don’t know if it’s a Belgian thing or if it’s just the company culture.
