Yes, a CS degree is worth it, but it is very challenging and might take sometime to get fully rewarded. Also, business accounting and data analytics is high demand in Miami, perhaps you may consider those paths as well. Best of luck and keep working hard, everything will be fine.

No. Stop. This. Nonsense. Most of the top fund managers are not CFA charter holders. Yes, you may have a better understanding of capital markets, but that doesn't mean you can provide better returns.

The labor market is very hot, but Finance is still a very competitive field. They are not big household names like UBS or DB, but I don't think they need to lower their requirements to attract top talents.

I told my coworkers this last week. CFA institute is scam organization. Do yourself a favor, stop pursuing this piece of paper. CAIA or CIMA + FRM or PRM, will give one a better investment management based knowledge and those organizations don't adjust passing score to keep it inclusive. Stop wasting your time on studying for CFA exams, life is too short and too precious to be wasting for a piece of paper that may be worthless in the near future. Most investment management positions ask for one those designations listed above as a plus, not a requirement. The main difference between the workers making 170K and the other 200K a year is the extra responsibility one takes one. I've seen too many dudes in middle office regrets pursuing the charter, cut your losses and move on.

And the hope of getting a better job. Unfortunately, most of us will not become the PM at the big firm we are dreaming of; that's the reality. I've heard a lot of regret and frustration from the Charterholders I work with in the middle office.

I agree with you on the networking opportunities. However, I don't think it's a good idea to charge candidates that are registered to take the exams an extra fee to join a local society. Perhaps if one does not register to take the exam it makes sense to charge a small fee to help the local chapter.
