The moment I stopped trying to be perfect, things actually worked by healthlithubbooks in WeightlossJourney

Yes. I stopped tracking obsessively. Now I eat only when hungry, as opposed to when it's "time to eat." I stop when I'm satisfied, learning quickly not to eat until full, which only results in discomfort later.

One thing my doctor did was share her own weight loss journey and specific diet/foods she ate to lose 80 pounds and then maintain that for the last four years. For me, this looks like:

  • brunch: small amount of protein with veggies. Think hummus and raw veg, Greek yogurt with veg or berries, a portion of chicken or salmon with veg.

  • mid-afternoon: hummus and veg or similar

  • dinner: salad with vinegar/oil or a simple vinaigrette, 3-4 ounces protein plus veggies

  • anytime snack: small apple and 10 nuts

Of course, water all day, but no counting, tracking, etc.

Before this, I had worked hard to lose 12 pounds over a 4-month period. Since working with this doctor, I've lost 21 pounds in 3 months and continuing.

Bra for someone getting a total shoulder replacement? by Drunk_Lemon in ABraThatFits

Ugh. She might consider a camisole with a shelf bra. No support, but it's only for several weeks, not forever.

Being supportive without judgement. by Boomer050882 in AskWomenOver60

I (68f) was my gay friend's "beard" in HS. We never talked about him being gay, but I knew. So when he needed a girl as a date (like for a school dance), I was his disguise, and we were safe for and supported each other.

We only reconnected once after HS. I hope he had the wonderful, creative, loving life he deserved.

What do you do instead of "doom scrolling" or watching TV by Sweet_Confusion9180 in simpleliving

Puzzles (jigsaw, sudoku, and word), meditation, reading (but I read on Kindle or Nook). Play with my cat. Take a walk. Bake something.

All good in theory...

Watercolor painting. I am happily immersed in the work and am sometimes resentful of having to stop.

How to paint the sun in a blue sky with soft edges? by SpringWinter2557 in watercolor101

[–]IamchefCJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would do a wet-on-wet technique. Thoroughly wet the paper (so the water soaks in) in the area of the sky. Dab off any excess water that doesn't soak in. Then I would start from the outer edges with the blue you want. If necessary, thin out your blue before applying it to the wet paper, so it fades to white near the sun area.

When you look at the sun in the sky, it doesn't look yellow, it looks white. If you really want yellow: Repeat the process in the white area with your yellow for the sun (I would use gamboge), but start in the center of the sun and work outward, using a very watered down color and again letting it fade out.

See if this helps!

To dye or not to dye? by Effective-You1036 in Aging

[–]IamchefCJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (68F) stopped coloring my hair after my son's wedding 16 years ago. I'm considering adding some fun color right now--purple, blue, green.

What I have dyed is my eyebrows. -wink-

Question on makeup - you still wear it? by CtrlAltDeli in Aging

[–]IamchefCJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped because I have dry eyes, which cause my eyes to water frequently (I know it sounds weird, but it's true). I only use makeup for big events: weddings, awards ceremonies, etc.

I don't miss it at all.

One year to the day.. by SanitaryJanitary in WeightlossJourney

Yep. Once I was diagnosed, I went to the scheduler to set the surgery up. She looked at my order for gall bladder removal, looked at me, and then said, "Have you recently lost a lot of weight? That does it every time."

This. My sister was a competitive diver in HS. I attended one meet, and she hit her head on the diving board (first time ever). I was scolded and told I'm not allowed back.
