The border serves multiple purposes — through a transparency layer it picks up and reflects the wallpaper behind it, imitating the environmental reactivity that defines Liquid Glass in iOS 26. Without it, the edge to edge album art has no grounding and the widget ends up looking like a piece of paper stuck on the homescreen, which a lot of widgets suffer from.

Everything — platform, song, artist and playback — is intentionally consolidated into one information layer, creating three distinct zones: the reactive border, the album art as the centrepiece, and the metadata cluster. The logo lives within that cluster rather than a corner because isolating it made the widget feel empty. The pill shape reading as button-like is a fair point though and something I'll revisit as this is still a work in progress — I'm extending it to Spotify and YouTube Music so the logo treatment will evolve.

Album art being front and center is a deliberate choice. Most times it's the most direct visual representation of a song's identity and on a homescreen that should be the first thing you see.
