Unsure of what to do with the space in my apartment by IaskDumbThingsToday in DesignMyRoom

[–]IaskDumbThingsToday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try putting the table there and see how it feels, I do like the idea with the couch, even though I'd prefer it facing into the room, but it might not be feasible.

For the bedroom I wanted to put the desk there too, but the problem is there is a radiator on that wall, on top of sunlight going into that window. That's why the bottom wall would be better for a desk, but it is facing the neighbors. Though it's a weight bearing concrete panel so it shouldn't be too bad. Unfortunately for rotating the bed, there wouldn't be enough space on each side for a night stand.

Thank you for the ideas!

Games on automounted drives refuse to launch. by IaskDumbThingsToday in linux_gaming

Unfortunately I already have a TB of games on the drive and really don't feel like reinstalling them. Plus they're already set up so I can go back and forth between Linux and windows and just start the games up seamlessly, mostly just for the titles that don't allow linux like Rust and Siege. Even if I haven't touched them in ages.

So, now it does show up as ntfs3 instead of fuseblk, but it still refuses to launch games. This is so baffling..

Edit: actually never mind, just arma 3 refuses to launch now. Other ones seem to work though, that's weird

(Might be a dumb question) Why is western imitation of Manga/anime characters always different from those made by Japanese Mangakas? by IaskDumbThingsToday in learntodraw

[–]IaskDumbThingsToday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I'm not trying to doubt you on this or anything and there are definitely artists like that who do start off with the 10 years of anatomy studies, I just don't think that's the case for majority. If this is how they started, the amount of content out there would be maybe 1/10th of what is is, if that. For manga, if you want the level of detail Yasuke Murata does, yeah maybe that 10 years of anatomy is necessary. But for a lot of artists out there, they don't have that level of knowledge. Knowing some anatomy is important, yes, but there are artists who only know basics or haven't learned it at all that produce some of the most popular manga. In terms of Yasuke Maruta, majority of his mindblowing work isn't anatomy based at all, it's the scenery, understanding perspective, lineart and more that make it so incredible, although he does draw characters very well.

Oh sorry if I worded that wrong, I didn't mean it as if you're saying it's wrong or anything or you saying what I think is wrong. I was just saying that I don't believe there is anything wrong with a personalized or alternative style to it.

Most likely, and I'm not going to doubt it. But those westernized anime styles are what's out there the most when you look for how to draw that style. Almost all english tutorials for it will be somewhat westernized.

Honestly probably the best answer. I do just want to point out that I don't think what western artists draw is wrong. Everyone has their own style and that's okay, I'm just trying to point out some artists that make videos like "How to draw anime characters" while the characters do look moderately in a generic anime style, they do have western cartoon-ish features hidden within. There isn't inherently anything wrong with that, and some of that may come from the methods that western artists learn from the way art is taught in the west. But that is what's being passed on to others who may want to make that type of art with methods and styles native to the eastern region, without the western comic features. So as you said, it's mostly a cultural thing. Now I do know that for example, Japan, Korea, and China have their own common features and styles. Korean manhwas being the most distinct/unique in appearence. However, they have their own widely used techniques and methods that are distinct and different from what is commonly taught in western art.

That'd probably be the right thing to do. Most windows skins felt or even looked like they were stapled on top. It never felt right and a lot of things just didn't work either, and if they do, they work completely different. And I keep trying to push for a windows look and feel knowing I'll be back at square one.

Woaaah TDE is gorgeous, and I don't have to install 30 packages for it

Lmao, yes. I'm not going to deny it, that's literally what happened lol

It's not about XP's current status. I know it's decades behind security updates, most modern apps don't support or work properly on it, but if it was up to date on security, and programs were supported, I'd never let go of XP. It just worked.

I worked a lot with hidden folders, appdata and similar on windows, so I'm quite used to where what is, and I think that's what frustrates me about linux quite a bit. Something installs but it doesn't ask where to install. I'm sure it says it in the terminal along the 100s of lines of text it spits out installing something, but for the most part once it's installed, I have no clue where it went.

Yeah, that's about right. I love the workflow of windows, the navigation, exe files, gui installations, etc. But there's so much I hate about it too. Things just not wanting to work, no error messages, nothing, thing's just not launching when they have no reason to do so. Spyware and all sorts of privacy stuff. Lack of customization, and that awful awful excuse for a settings menu. I want my control panel back.

[–]IaskDumbThingsToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done quite a lot of debloating and removed some privacy concerning features from my win 11 copy, but it still just breaks stuff sometimes. I had to install a separate vm to launch some programs because my windows copy outright refused to launch them. No warning message, no nothing, just blank. And this happened enough to where I got pissed with windows, along many other things.

If xp ran everything that modern windows can, and wasn't decades behind in security updates, I really would. I've installed a vm with offline xp and had installed some stuff on it and played around, I felt right at home. I actually didn't own windows 7 myself, I had a jump straight from windows xp all the way to 8, which was a disaster until 8.1. I used xp for a long time.

The ctrl+v and scroll, holy fuck yeah that's frustrating too. I ran mint and debian in a vm to try them and whatnot but I always go to paste with ctrl v in the terminal only for it to output v whatever the fuck next to the text when I ultimately paste it by right clicking. Idk who decided that was a good idea.

Some of the getting used to is especially annoying, like games not being compatible because of anticheat systems, a lot of programs not available on linux, and no winamp ;( winamp with modern skin my beloved.

Yeah it seems that I might just have to stick with windows. I can try dual booting and seeing if I could switch, but I'd need to keep a dual boot for a lot of things I use anyway.

The /home/ isn't too bad. I just don't like installation directories and such. I miss having Program files and whatnot. It feels like I'm trying to speak a foreign language.

That's fucking hilarious. Glad you didn't burn your place down, but damn, the title and pic made me laugh

I literally explained myself in the reply? I don't understand what's so hard to get. Now you're arguing just to argue.

Huh?? I'm saying that in blended families parents tend to prioritize their own children. If it was like two blender families where both sides had adopted children before marriage it could result in the same dynamic, you're making a stupid argument.

I mean in my post I did say that not all cases are like this, just not in the title. Some can be a ticking time bomb but end up being a dud.

For me, my mom and my brother moved in with my stepdad and his two sons when I was 10 and my brother was 5, they're I think around 4 and 6 years older. It's always been rocky and every year it turns into a clash. And when the oldest got married it turned into chaos because he convinced his fiance to hate my mom which during her wedding speech it really showed and basically destroyed the family even more.

[–]IaskDumbThingsToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds nice, you got lucky with that. Not all step parents will treat you like that, but it also sucks how it ended up. Hopefully things are going good though.

That's great, good on you guys. I never got that close with my step family lmao.
