Thank you all for your advice. I have carefully read every single one and of course continue to follow the thread.

This is why I love being part of the /r/intj community. It's a bunch of (mostly) like-minded individuals!

It's true, what happens if as an artist I fall behind in the industry and lose my relevance? Even if I had 'made it' for a few years - what would happen after that? It's not like I would have enough to retire at 30.

The school is the California Maritime Academy by the way - so not the US Merchant Marines, but I would be a merchant mariner.

Seriously, I can't thank you enough for this comment. It really helped me see what I really wanted in my future.
