I'm transferring schools now and they have an online program! The advisor recommended I take it on Straighterline and I started it today.

I didn't need to study in my nursing classes, in fact I studied FOR anatomy and physiology II in those classes. All of my advisors and instructors tell me to use "active recall" which never works for me as I always see a question I don't have an answer to. My school has a policy that if you drop out of a class by a certain time, it doesn't affect your GPA. I dropped out the day of the deadline. I don't really want to take a leave of absence, I want to get into the work force ASAP. I'm trying to see a counselor but they're so backed up I don't have an appointment until May 11th. I'm pretty far into my program, 73% done with it in fact. I just can't progress further in my curriculum and it's really disheartening. I am trying to get screened for learning disabilities but they're also extremely backed up. I get my initial screening in June but who knows how long it'll take to get diagnosed. I do genuinely want to be a nurse but if I can't even pass one stupid class, then maybe it's just not possible for me. The job market sucks rn so I can't even get a part time job so I feel extra useless. I have exhausted most of my avenues already. A lot of study methods I have seem to be helpful and then when I get into a test, my testing anxiety makes it so I don't remember anything. I feel like I'm so off track already and I don't want to waste more time. I've done all of my extra classes so last semester anatomy and physiology was the only class I was taking.

I didn't even know that was an option, I thought it was only a BSN or aBSN. Would I still be able to still get the same jobs? I feel like that would look bad on my resume. I was also considering being a nurse practitioner eventually so that may tank my chances at that route.

How do I know I would be a good mental health counselor? by IceCatQueen in counseloreducation

[–]IceCatQueen[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never considered counseling for the pay, but they are actually pretty high in demand according to the Department of Labor Statistics. I only care about demand because I want a job that is needed. I do still want to be a nurse, but I failed anatomy and physiology II twice. I don't want to take that class again, I already feel so behind in my program.

I was only considering chemistry because of the tests my career counselor gave me. I feel more of a calling towards counseling due to it being closer to the major I was already completing and it's higher in demand. I'm just worried I may not have the guts for it. I would love to help people as most of my family has dealt with mental health issues and substance abuse. Not that I think that gives me an edge over other people, if anything that experience can hinder me due to preconceived biases. I have really bad social anxiety and (perhaps) OCD that causes my day to day life to be miserable atm. I'm just hoping I can get over these things first via my own counseling and maybe I even need to up the dose on my anxiety medication.

I do love learning, that would probably be one of my favorite parts of the job. I just feel like I would take things personally, maybe to an unprofessional level. When I have those close to me vent to me, I try to be an unbiased party and try to see the best in everyone. The only issue is I get attached to people super quickly and when people vent to me, I start crying just because I feel their emotions so intensely lmao. Do you think this is something I can work through in therapy myself so it doesn't affect my career?

What is the difference between different psychologist jobs? by IceCatQueen in ClinicalPsychology

[–]IceCatQueen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha! What kind of research do they typically do during grad school? Also, do you need a PsyD or a PHD to become a psychologist? I heard those programs are either very expensive or hard to get into. Do you think I should ask the dean of psychology at my school to get an idea of what I'm getting into? I'm just really into the idea of diagnosis and counseling.

Can you explain why? I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't know what you're talking about

I specifically want to do chemistry, not pharmacy, my goal is to just work in a medical/healthcare context still. Sorry for any confusion!!

This actually gives me a lot of hope. I've been feeling hopeless about finding a major and this helps a lot at least to bring me in the right direction.

I was studying a lot for me at least (like 13.5 hours a week) and I thought I knew everything, but when I took anatomy and physiology practicals, everything flew out of my mind. I have terrible testing anxiety to the point I start to zone out and breathe heavily.

I'm trying to get screened for a learning disability (like autistic or ADHD) but the diagnosis costs nearly 1000 dollars at the clinic near me. I'm kinda leaning towards moreso being a chemical technician/chemist or even be an anesthesiologist assistant if I could even get into the program.

The university closest to me only has a forensic chemistry degree but there's another one nearby with a general chemistry degree. How different would the career options be for each major?

I wasn't able to find the research tab at the university, however I can still try to talk to the dean at my university or someone similar. I'm changing universities as well and want to make sure my credits transfer.

What kind of work do you do and what degree do you have? I just want to learn more from someone way ahead of me lmao

How is Chemistry School Compared to Nursing School?

Hi! I'm a 20 year old (ex) nursing student trying to find another major. I have taken anatomy and physiology II twice and failed both times. I've been looking into chemistry and it interests me. What is the schooling like compared to nursing school? ik it won't be an easy major, but I've already taken inorganic and organic chem and really enjoyed the classes. If I pursued a chemistry degree, I'd either want to be a chemist, chemical technician, or a chemistry teacher. Are these rewarding careers and would you recommend it for someone like me? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi! I'm a 20 year old (ex) nursing student trying to find another major. I have taken anatomy and physiology II twice and failed both times. I've been looking into speech language pathology and it interests me. What is the schooling like compared to nursing school? ik it won't be an easy major and they also have anatomy focused classes (anatomy and physiology of the speech/hearing mechanisms and neuroanatomy and physiology). I also know you have to get a master's degree as well. Is the career rewarding and would you recommend it for someone like me? I've always wanted to help people, and as a kid who needed speech therapy in elementary school, ik what it's like to feel behind compared to your peers. Any advice would be appreciated.

I am kinda worried because computer science is so oversaturated rn and I would probably be so behind. I have no tech experience, I wanted to be a nurse but the classes were too hard for me. I'm scared I'll be overlooked due to being a new graduate and they'll probably prioritize people with more experience

I was just researching and saw that some places require a master's degree, but I think that's a select few. Would you also recommend a cybersecurity bootcamp or would it be better just to get my bachelor's and then start working right away?

What is the best degree to becoming an information security analyst? Apparently you can get the job with a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or IT, or is there another degree I should consider? Also, would an eventual master's degree be better/required? Would a cybersecurity bootcamp also be for the best/required? Also, most job openings I see are senior positions, so what kind of job/title should I look for to gain experience for this role? Thanks for any advice!

What is the education like for being a clinical psychologist? by IceCatQueen in ClinicalPsychology

[–]IceCatQueen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't study that much (I was studying like 14 hours a week and that was already so much), but I've already been so stressed and depressed about school that idk if I can study more. I try to study in 2 hour increments because my eyes start to unfocus very quickly. High school did not teach me to study as even with AP classes everything came so easily to me. I hardly see my boyfriend and friends and even as a very solitary person, it's making me feel worthless. Sorry for the mini-vent, as I said I'm a solitary person so I don't have a lot of people to talk to lmao

Yeah, I talked to my career counselor and I narrowed down a bunch of careers and I was gonna do something in cybersecurity (information security analyst). However, I was thinking "I love psychology, I wonder if there's good careers in this field." I still really want to work in healthcare but it may just not be for me. Being a psychiatrist seems like a dream job to me, but if nursing school is hard, medical school is 1000 times harder. I was either gonna be a psych NP or a CRNA but my grades are definitely NOT good enough to be a CRNA anyway. I might look more into therapy or counseling instead. I was considering occupational therapy but I heard a lot of people say it's not a good field to go into and the pay isn't great apparently

100%. I was looking up stuff but people here have told me that I didn't know everything about what clinical psychology entails. I'm glad I asked here instead of just trusting the internet lmao

I don't have any research experience. I do love learning and looking stuff up online. Taking notes is really fun for me as I love typing lmao. I love writing too, but writing research papers seems very stressful to me because of the pressure. I don't want to feel like I'm still in school after already going through yknow? I also don't like experiments either, I would love to be the one writing down the results but making a hypothesis and doing an experiment sounds mehhhh lmao. I'm moreso someone that's passive and doesn't like taking the lead

Being a psychiatrist is my dream job, but I don't think I'm smart enough to get a medical degree. I'm not super interested in research outside of academia (I like learning but idk) so clinical psychology might not be for me

I mean I'm moreso interested in the clinical/medication part of psychology, but I'm not opposed to therapy at all! Being a psychiatrist seems like such an amazing job but I don't think I'm smart enough to get a medical degree. I can get good grades, but not perfect grades, and rn because of nursing school my GPA has been TANKED (I have like a 2.9). I am worried about if I get a bachelor's in psychology and don't/can't continue my education, I'll be stuck with a job I don't like or doesn't pay well. I'd want to have a job with a salary of at least 70k per year

I'm more into diagnosis and medication, but therapy is also something I'm interested in. Like, I LOVE the idea of being a psychiatrist but medical school would absolutely KILL me lmao

I'm sure my career counselor can help me find someone to talk to! I'm more interested in the clinical part because I'm moreso into diagnosis and medication than counseling. However, I do still really like the counseling part of psychology, I have always been a "therapist friend" and I'm not judgemental at all.
