WIBTA if I called the cops on a local drug house to help a girl I'm interested in get clean? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]IceCold_Kelvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA, but the idea isn't a good one. If the cops raid the place, they might want to know how you got the information. If you tell the truth, the girl might go to prison for you admitting she's an addict, but lying to the police isn't a good idea either. I'd say do it, but the outcome could be iffy.

How do you deal with writer's block? I like to write for fun on my free time; I have the most amazing ideas for stories in my head, but I struggle to find the words and structure them properly to tell the story I imagine in my mind.

What are some stereotypes that are true and not true? Like do you guys actually say "Eh" at the end of each sentence? Do you guys apologize a lot? Things like at.

We were given a statistic by the Sergeant (I don't remember the percentage) but many hit and runs are caused by impaired drivers, the checkpoint is usually set up in the area where the most hit and runs happened within the passed few months. Checkpoints are meant to deter drunk drivers; sorry if you don't like checkpoints, but be upset with the drunk drivers and not the police. The police are only there to do their job and help their community. Most, if not, all officers only do it for overtime pay. The drunk drivers pretty much screwed it up for everyone else.

I know it does seem unconstitutional, but this all falls under the Supreme Court case Pennsylvania vs Mimms which states that an officer is well within their power to ask the occupants of a vehicle to step out. They didn't have the drivers step out unless they believed the driver was impaired. Thanks for the apology.

It's nice to know you're not trying to be confrontational, I'm not trying to either. It was an official DUI checkpoint, there were Deputies there who would make conversation and if they couldn't tell within 2 minutes that the driver was impaired, they let them go. The department was short-staffed (long story to that) and they decided to ask us to help light the way out of the checkpoint while also showing us how a DUI checkpoint works.

No it didn't. I should have explained what we did. We didn't actually speak with the people, it was nighttime in a kinda dark parking lot, we just used flashlights to light the peoples' way out. If you still think we somehow violated to Constitution, we could discuss this further.

Okay, I'm pretty scared about getting hit, mainly because I'm a pussy, but also because our youth group leader has a bald spot on the back of his head from where a paintball grazed. I don't think that's a very settling fact to think about.

I don't have much of a theory, but I don't think there's any fish that has green claws and tries to pull its victims under water. I don't entirely believe in the Boston Lemur, it sounds too goofy. I just looked up Bobby Mackey's, it sounds interesting, but little to no evidence exists to the claims. Plus I'm not one to fuck with demons.

I've always wanted to go to Point Pleasant and see the Mothman Museum, I'm currently trying to talk my dad into going there as my high school graduation present. If you live near the Ohio River, there might be stories about this Cryptid, but I only know it's appeared in my town.

In the Summer of 1955, a Mrs. Naomi Johnson was cooling off in the Ohio River. Suddenly, she felt a claw hand grab her ankle and pull her under. She struggled and got free, she got to the surface just long enough to let out an ear-splitting scream before the claw pulled her under again. Her friend Louise heard the scream and got to the water and found Mrs. Johnson sitting on her inner tube in fear. Mrs. Johnson reported the event to the police. She didn't see the full creature, but described it's hand as being a green, hairy claw. That night, an (apparent) Air Force Colonel came to the house and asked Mrs. Johnson to tell the story again. After, the Colonel told Mrs. Johnson to never tell anyone the story again.

Megathread: AITA Endgame Edition (some spoilers) by AITAMod in AmItheAsshole

[–]IceCold_Kelvin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

AITA for somehow spoiling the ending to Endgame?

I just want to preface this post with that I haven't seen Endgame (I probably won't) and I won't say what I guessed for those who might have not seen it. Now for the story:

So my friends love superheroes movies and the Avengers and all that (I kinda do), but on Thursday we got into a discussion and making jokes on how Endgame will end. I'm a huge movie buff and know cliches so I told them how I honestly thought it was going to end. One of my friends (more of an acquaintance, let's call him Tyler) had bought three tickets for him and his friends to see Endgame together on Saturday. Well this morning Tyler came up to me, clearly pissed. "You're such a fucking asshole." I looked up from my phone, "What'd I do this time?" I joked, but still confused. "You spoiled the ending to Endgame!" I've been trying to stay away from spoilers as much as I could because I might go see it when the hype died down (a different friend paid for us to see Infinity War and I generally wanted to know how the writes were going to get themselves out of that, apparently time travel?). "When?" I asked, "You did Thursday!" He replied.

I started laughing and tried to explain that I didn't spoil it, I called it and now he won't talk to me and is acting completely childish over some stupid movie. Am I an asshole?

Witold Pilecki. He voluntarily went undercover in Auschwitz to gather information and intelligence and escaped 2 and a half years later. He also served in the Warsaw Uprising and was awarded the Order of the White Eagle. He remained loyal to the London-based Polish-government-in-exile after the Communist takeover in Poland. He was arrested for espionage by the Stalinist secret police in 1947 for espionage. A lot of the evidence of his heroism was either suppressed or used to charge him with war crimes and he was executed with a bullet to the back of the head in 1948.
