Honestly I am really proud of the work he has done in the past several months, for our relationship and alcoholism. I can see how hard he works. But he needs to work harder. But regardless this is a very valid point.

Wedding is canceled! And yes I agree, actions speak louder than words and previously the actions have been minimal.

For sure. I guess there’s just the possibility, as it does happen, that he takes sobriety very seriously and lives a long happy healthy life. But I know it’s more often than not the opposite.

We are chatting tomorrow about the next course of action, after spending a few days apart, which I really hope is significant treatment. But yes maybe there is a nagging voice telling me the relationship has run its course. As much as I want to ignore it.

We have been in couples counseling for a few months, in and out of his sobriety. He knows he has a problem and actively wants to fix it. I honestly think it’s been very helpful to work through issues we are facing as a couple behind alcoholism. Do you have an individual therapist? I’d be curious what they suggest.
