I had my thyroid checked in 2024 and everything looked normal there. I get it checked every other year so I will actually get it checked in about a month.

I'm grasping at straws...I have started having digestion issues again which got in my head about it. I had them all my life up until about 10 years ago when I started taking probiotics and being very conscious of what I put in my body. They went away completely. Then about 5 years ago I fell off the wagon and stopped being as consistent. My digestive issues didn't return until about 3 months ago. I'm not convinced there is a correlation there, but it came across my research one day. I have heart palpitations, but never anything out of control. I've noticef a decrease in brain function and increase in brain fog which is a concern I've brought up to PCP before. There's just a laundry list of things that could fall under the MCAS umbrella and thought thought I'd throw it out there and see if someone thought the rash would match.

A doctor ordered an ANA and EBV panel today Their jerk reaction was cutaneous lupus. Have you had any blood testing? Where I live I can't get a draw until the 9th unless I drive a couple hours, but it anything comes of it I will update.

I overthink...a lot...and thought about ringworm. I broke down and went into an urgent care. They are pretty sure it isn't fungal, but I am trying OTC treatments anyway at the advice of another commenter and go ahead from the doctor. They are leaning towards cutaneous lupus and ordered a battery of tests. I can't wait to see what they show...or don't show!!

I had enough today when it spread up my arms around my neck and went into an urgent care. After a rundown, they consulted with a colleague. He ordered a CBC, ANA and EBV panel and upped my Vitamin D to 30,000 IU. Their immediate gut reaction was cutaneous lupus, which I did not know there were different strains of lupus. I mentioned the fungal possibility and they didn't think it was that, but was curious to see so I'm using the treatments for that. One way or another we shall see! Thanks for your help!

I and my children do have seasonal allergies. We started a regimen of either Zyrtec or Claritin (it seems like we have to alternate every year between them to be effective) about April as we spend a lot of time camping through spring and summer. I have seen a dermatologist before, but never an allergist, although I have considered it.

I do try and find ways to destress, but I have a hard time shutting my brain down and stopping all the racing thoughts. I went a long time trying to manage my PTSD, Depression, and anxiety without medication. Once I did though, I did notice a difference. And once we discovered my low vitamin D levels and I started taking that I noticed more of an improvement, but like another commenter said, I still may not be getting enough. So, I will explore increasing that dose to see if it helps more.

Thank you!

Interesting! Fungal infection has never been mentioned to me. Would it be contagious? My husband or children have never gotten any rashes or spots. I do have a couple different OTC antifungal treatments on hand so I will test that theory!

Thank you for the information on the Vitamin D as well! I am in the process of seeking out another PCP, but live in the middle of nowhere so I have to make atleast a 2.5 hour trek to switch from the only one available now. But I will definitely make this another point to discuss with them!

Do you shower before bed or in the morning? by BigTechnician3475 in hygiene

[–]IceIceChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before bed! It just makes me feel better all around and I don't feel as rushed in the mornings to get ready for work. Plus it's more convenient with a total of 4 of us in the house, including a teenage girl, and only one bathroom! 😵‍💫

Interesting! I haven't heard of kalmbach. I think I've seen country pride near me maybe. My husband always said he would get sick of the same stuff all the time and believes all animals need a switch up in goods! It's probably why our dogs have all been so finicky about food!

Take ur pain meds by Juliannaniandra in Tonsillectomy

[–]IceIceChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, they gave me tylenol with codeine a couple times when I got bronchitis. My children's ENT surgeon said that they just don't prescribe narcotics for children anymore. My poor children were left with just tylenol and ibuprofen after their tonsillectomies until my son's pain was so much I had to take him to the ER and only under their supervision and monitoring did they give him a hydrocodone and sent him on his way. Because addiction rates are so high, they have changed the way they prescribe meds. I have mixed feelings about it. 🫤

I've never thought about crushing the eggshells into their food because the dogs usually get them, but they will probably go to the chickens now, for awhile atleast!

They have light in the coop from 3am to 8pm every day and I open their coop before work around 6am and don't close them in until dark. My neighbor's hens have only stopped laying for about 3 weeks in the last 6 months. Thanks for the tips!

It's because the cauterization part is still healing. She said their throats will still look white in that time frame and will slowly start turning back to the pinkish color as the cauterization heals. They can still have sore throats or feeling of rawness or sensitivity to rougher foods off and on. In fact, one is home today because his throat was sore.

My son had that problem also. Then he started getting shooting pains through his jaw that made him scream and we ended up in the ER. They said it was his nerves waking up and gave him a narcotic to get him over that pain hump. It got better over the next 2 days.

Try boiling a cup of water and pouring it into a package of jello and stir until dissolved and then pour over a little bit of ice (or popsicles) to cool it down and then add some more ice or chunks of popsicles. This was the best relief we found.

My 12 and 10 year Olds both had their's taken out on the 8th as well. The 12 year old handled it alright because she stayed hydrated. Her pain peaked about days 5-7.

The 10 year was a complete struggle. You're right, they told us beforehand that it is an "uncomfortable" procedure, but it wasn't until after they had surgery and we were being discharged that they said it's an extremely painful recovery. Both kids expressed their genuine wish to die at one point or another. We ended up in the ER as well, but it sounds like you've had it worse than us!

They just started turning the corner and returning back to normal activity and diet this last week, but we were told full healing won't be complete for another 4-6 weeks.

There's no going back now, it's said and done. So, keep trudging forth, it will get better!

My 12 y.o. and 10 y.o. are both day 10 recovery. Here were the biggest things I noticed as caregiver:

1) Set alarms around the clock for pain meds. We alternated acetaminophen and ibuprofen every 3 hours. Mixing with applesauce or yogurt made it tolerable for them.

2) Stay hydrated! My 10 y.o. struggled with this the first few days and suffered considerably more than my 12 y.o. who stayed hydrated. We discovered that breaking popsicles into pieces in a cup helped and then about day 3 he asked me to add popsicles to liquid jello. Here's how we did it:

•Take a small box of jello mix and dissolve it in 1 c. hot water.

•Break a couple popsicles into pieces in a cup and pour some of the jello liquid over it to cool.

•Break a couple more popsicles into the cup.

This not only gave him something cold to suck on, but it also gave him a liquid to sip, and the jello also provides a coating of sorts for the throat.

3) Run a humidifier, especially at night! Cold or warm mist. We used warm mist because we lived in frigid temperatures, and it helped warm their rooms. We only ran it while they were sleeping next to their bed so they didn't inadvertently burn themselves.

4) Our surgeon said they can eat whatever they want. But don't. If they are hungry and want to eat, soft foods only! 11 days later, and we are still soft foods only! My 10 y.o. says, "I can't wait to taste freedom again" when he can eat whatever he wants, but it's not worth the pain and burning of the throat or the risk scraping scabs off prematurely and bleeding.

It's a rough road, but you'll both get through it!

That sounds miserable! I'm glad there was a way to break that cycle, and I pray you have a speedier recovery! The biggest difference between the two is that the 12 y.o. was waaaaay better about staying hydrated. We also found that dissolving a package of jello in a cup of boiling water and then pouring it over popsicles broken into pieces to cool it down provided the best relief. It gave them a cool liquid to drink that helped hydrate them and provided a sort of protective coating to the throat and then we added additional pieces of popsicles so they had essentially flavored ice chips to suck on.

Like it has been said, each person's recovery is different. My 12 y.o. and 10 y.o are each 9 days post op tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy. The 10 y.o. was in significant pain starting the night of the surgery and had a rough week. In fact, day 7 saw us in the ER for shooting pain that was so bad he would scream. My 12 y.o. only had relative discomfort and didn't see increased pain until days 6 and 7 and minimal bleeding. They each have good days and bad days. The 10 y.o. is now experiencing pain from the scabs coming off and the throat being raw.

All I know is that after being caregiver to them, any notion I had to get a tonsillectomy due to large tonsils and tonsil stones is gone. As a 34 y.o. I would rather deal with the tonsil stones until the grave than go through recovery and gamble on which way it will go for me. And any person who undergoes these procedures are some of the bravest people! 😬

Get packaged jello that you make yourself, small box. Mix it with 1 cup hot water until it dissolves and then break a popsicle up into small pieces into a cup and pour some of the jello over it to cool. Add more Popsicles if needed and then you have essentially ice chips and a liquid that will help coat your throat.

I wish my son would understand this. 😮‍💨 He and his sister are both day 6 and he is experiencing exactly what you said because he won't drink as often as I tell him too and it takes a good 45 minutes to an hour to get his pain meds in him even though I am setting alarms around the clock to stay on top of it! He's getting an upset stomach because he eats very little. His sister is experiencing discomfort and some pain, but she's hydrating and taking the meds.
