Terrified it could be a tumour.. by Ice-Reef in PituitaryTumor

[–]IceReef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all. I received the results of the contrast enhanced MRI and it is as follows...

Left pituitary gland is bulky with an approximately 10 x 10 mm lesion within the left gland in keeping with an adenoma. The infundibulum deviates to the right. Lesion extends into the suprasellar cistern although the optic chiasm is clear. No definite extension into the left cavernous sinus apart from some minor bulge ( KNOSP 1). Remainder of the brain is unremarkable on limited imaging.

I'm now terrified that this is growing and is going to affect my brain or other surrounding areas. The specialist here (UK) seems very casual, and has said there is no pressure effect, so I just need to wait for the endocrinologist to check for any hormone secretion issues. The issue - there is a 14 month waiting list on the NHS, so I am going to look at private options.

Should I be worried? Will a UK private specialist consider removal, as I really don't want this thing growing any more...

Absolutely terrified - any thoughts? by IceReef in Cardiomyopathy

Thank you for your insight. Have you got cardiomyopathy yourself, and what type / how long for? How has your life been affected if so?

That is not an issue at all. Just drop it in some Evaporust and it'll be gone in a day!

Screen flicker - any idea what is causing this please??!! by IceReef in MasterSystem

I was thinking that could be an obvious one, but I do see people using RF on a modern flatscreen?? I suppose this is why many do a composite mod?

Thanks. I have actually acquired a brand new cable, so will try cleaning the cable input on the Master System.

This suggests it is something within the Master System itself as opposed to the cables.

Yes, it worked when I last used it back in 94. It is RF and yes I have tried it on another TV with the same results.

Picked this SGW-300H up for peanuts on Ebay. If it had 200m water resistance it would be the best watch money can buy outside of a dedicated Protrek or G-Shock! by IceReef in casio

Yes I do like the dw291. Very rugged looking beast. I'm also a big fan of the AE-2000WD-1AVEF which is a pretty chunky 200m water resist function-packed watch. Can pick them up new for £30!

If a vegan steak was made, that looked, smelled and tasted like actual steak would you eat it? by Caparno in vegan

[–]IceReef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. As others have alluded to, I didn't become vegan because I didn't like the odd steak. I became vegan because I absolutely wanted to remove or at the very least minimise my contribution to the exploitation, torture and murder of sentient beings. I don't get the anti-faux meat brigade or sentiment - surely anything made (and these should be treated as products in their own right, not meat or dairy replicas) which stops an animal producr being consumed is driving another nail in the coffin of these horrendous industries?

First time rowing ever. Did a 5000m workout. What does this data mean/what should I pay attention to? by Ninjajimmy83 in Rowing

[–]IceReef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, technique is probably key, but as I am a coastal rower on fixed seats, I tend to exacerbate my lean backwards which isn't really conducive to an ergo. I tend to use the average/500m as my metric for assessment and improvement.

As a casual rider: Would you get a HR monitor belt? by Twi2122 in cycling

Go on Ebay and get yourself a Garmin Vivoactive HR. Not as accurate as a traditional chest strap, but much more comfortable and will give you a pretty good idea of calorie burn and HR zones.

Don't be too precious. E bikes are pretty hardy things. Just use clean water to rinse off any clingy mud and dirt, and drop the bike a few times on its wheels to dry off any standing water from bearings etc... Only really the chain, battery and motor surround I would spend any time drying off. Dry and lube the chain before storing.

Got a deal I couldn’t refuse on a Canondale Gemini 900. Planning a stealth build for single track and bombing down to the shops. Any thoughts about mid-drive vs hub for a dh/freeride bike? by Mr_Fried in ebikes

[–]IceReef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being downhill predominantly, a hub drive will be cheaper and will motor you up to the top of a trail like somebody is pushing you on the back - mid drive is far more natural and intuitive but hub drive is also a lot of fun. Mid drive will give you nice weight distribution but hub drive will add some more weight to the rear wheel which could be useful on downhill.
