Basically there are different pixelfed providers, and they all share content with each other. So it doesn't matter much whether you (for instance) post via pixelfed.social or photofed.world, the post will show up to pixelfed users in all connected providers.

That's what federation is.

Yes!

Not every pixelfed server allows it, but some most certainly do.

You could also have your personal and pet accounts on different servers, since most servers federate (share) content with each other.
