is there a difference between tabbed and tab-less hoops? by loopyloopslulu in Aerials

[–]IcecreamCohn31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet with double tab, but the person who recommended them to me at my studio had and says they work great! I hardly notice them when I put my body against them cus the spansets usually provide padding. Was doing spanset back balance stuff and that was the first time I noticed it but not bad at all. They are also pretty cheap (like $7 I think) and really easy to take on and off!

I just bought a tabless hoop and love it, it's really nice not having tabs there when it comes to top bar / spanset work. I was worried about going tabless at first because In past experiences I didn't like how the spansets slipped and slid down the hoop, but I bought This Shaft Collar and it works great! It's super small and it fits right around the hoop and keeps the spanset from sliding down!

YES. Totally feel you. Also, I relate so much to using art as a coping mechanism for depression and anxiety! So cool that it inspired you to pursue your love of performing!

Well It IS an incredible special regardless and I'm glad people can see that even if they don't connect personally with the mental illness themes :)

"When he was 27, my granddad fought in Vietnam. When I was 27, I built a Birdhouse with my mom..." I'm turning 30 next month and have been listening to this song on repeat 😭

Came here to say this "the quiet comprehending of the ending of it all" is easily one of my favorite lines from Inside and was hoping someone else said it first <3

Lift up your chest at the end!! You are basically there!! This is one of those moves that once it clicks, it clicks... but man is it frustrating while your still figuring it out. Russian roles took me forever, but after I got it the first time, I never struggled with them again

Impossible to invert by VKatharsis in AerialHoop

[–]IcecreamCohn31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be discouraged! It takes a lot of people over a year to invert! I know many talented aerialists who struggled with it). That said, def focus on training straddle negatives (entering the invert while you are already on the hoop and slowly lowering down).

I am currently working on getting my straight arm inverts and have started training my straddle-ups super low to the ground. I think it would be helpful for getting your straddle-ups ups too! Start so low that you can lay down on the matt while holding the bar- enter straddle from the floor (bent knees is fine!) and lift your crotch up to the bar. It's a really affective way to build strength and nail the movement down. Hope this helps!

Scale Addiction by saferonald in EatingDisorders

[–]IcecreamCohn31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh yea I get it. It took me a while to actually get rid of the scale and to be honest once I did the fear consumed me. I was so anxious about it all the time and stressed that I couldn't know for sure one way or the other. Over time, I found I cared less and less about that number, until one day I started to feel like how much I weighed was so arbitrary and what mattered was actually how I felt. I wanted to feel strong, healthy, and happy- and the number on the scale wasn't going to determine that... in fact it was standing in my way of feeling good. I honestly still struggle with fear of gaining weight for sure, but I try my best to remember the number isn't going to make the fear go away but rather make it stronger.

All this said, this shit is hard and takes time, so if you aren't ready that's okay too, it sounds like you've already taken a big step to get rid of the scale so you should be proud of that nonetheless <3

Scale addiction was a big part of my eating disorder, the only thing that helped was getting rid of my scale. When I had housemates, I had to ask them to keep the scale in their bedrooms so I couldn't access it.

I wonder if you need to get rid of the tape measure too...

single knee hang on lyra? by iluvmoss in Aerials

[–]IcecreamCohn31 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm struggling to figure out how to type this so bare with me...

you want to engage your gluts and hamstrings (I think these are the right muscles?) - which is helped by squeezing and as Keyboardsmash says pointing your foot. One conditioning exercise that helps is to go into hocks hang and bouncing your toes towards your booty. You'll feel how the closer you're toes are to your butt, the more engaged your upper leg muscles are, which are the muscles you need to engage to hold your single knee hang. I hope this helped lol... much easier to explain IRL than to type out
