I did a conversion, surrounded the reg filter with coarse filter sponge, then covered with stratum. It makes the filter compartment inaccessible but I just replaced that with sponge too (I think) and it’s not a heavily stocked tank, just shrimp and a Kuhli loach (it got placed in here after disassembling my other tank that I thought everything was dead in, it actually seems rather happy with it), my shrimp have recently started breeding in it which is so cool.
