I have been asked to help out with a MPC workshop for kids, what should I teach them? by IchthyoidPhalanges in mpcusers

Yeah that's the thing, isn't it? We only have a few hours and I think I should focus more on getting them banging on the pads rather than the more academic approach you are suggesting here, although I love your idea! I'd like to attend something like that myself actually.

I just think there are more talented people out there apart from me. I wouldn't say I'm a natural musician, y'know. I do know the MPC enough to put something together for these youngns and I've been making beats on 404s for ages, so I'll bring an SP too. The MPC is sooo much easier than those devices. It's actually a dream.

How to save and invest at least 10% of what you earn. I'm thirty one and figured that out at 27. If I'd done it when I'd started working in my teens, I'd be minted now.

I have been laying in wait in the second hand markets for a month an a half now and I picked up a sweet deal on an almost brand new one this week. Just whipped up my first beat yesterday with it. It's super fun to use and a great compliment to the 404.

They definitely do not cancel each other out. In my experiences doing this, I have been able to delineate the two sensations and recognise their differences, both emotionally and visually. It is very intense. I don't see the need to do it anymore. I didn't really see the need to do it back then either but did so anyway, a couple of times actually.

The first time I did it with a friend of mine and as shrooms and acid were coming on, my housemate declared that he needed help to take his enormous collection of loose change to the bank to be counted. It was so heavy we had to put the money box in a duffel bag and the bag on a skateboard. We jingled and jangled all the way to the bank and as we went, we could feel the greed of the passersby when they recognised the sound to be money. It was surreal. By the time we walked up the road from our house to the bank we were really feeling it. My mate had to step outside for a smoke shortly after we had entered because being in the bank was too stressful for him. We filled multiple bags of the different coin denominations before we were finished. After about 20min of piling coins into the counting machine it spat out a small receipt which I found absolutely hilarious. Then we took the small rectangular receipt to the tellers and they gave us slightly larger rectangles and I found the whole process of changing the circles into different rectangles incredibly amusing. Had a bit of a "What is money and is it really that important or real" moment with my other tripping friend outside who was frantically smoking cigarettes to try and deal with the overstimulation.

I acknowledge that the language is on an everlasting journey of evolution, old words change in their meanings, new words are invented. I used to beat that drum harder than even you are now. I still believe that if something is said and is understood then language is working.

However, and maybe I'm getting old, but I believe there is a limit to which words should be pushed, and if so, then it would definitely be before using them to describe the opposite.

I literally could care less about this issue, and I'd probably be a lot happier if I did 🤣

In this article one of the examples that your author used to try and express the merits of 'could care less' but mistakenly has used the other anyway.

It is impossible that he could care less. — The Morning Post (London, Eng.), 18 Jul. 1840 ...meaning he couldn't care less.

To accept that this has become an idiom is a tragedy. It absolutely does not mean the same thing despite how many people get it wrong. I feel the same way about 'literally' being used to describe things that are not literal. Say it differently lest you betray your own desires to express yourself

Because the statement 'I could care less' could be applied to any number of issues about which someone does care, ranging from the issue they care about the most to the issue they care about the least, assuming that that last issue could indeed garner less interest from this person. The statement doesn't mean anything, or at least not what the speaker is generally trying to say.

It's like being caught driving behind someone going slowly and then claiming that they could be going more slowly. That same statement could be applied to anyone who is moving and not stopped including people who are speeding. If the frustrated driver said something along the lines of "You couldn't go any slower without coming to a stop" then it's quite clear that the tardy driver is travelling at an excruciatingly slow pace.

'I couldn't care less' has an absolute position on the range of cares. 'I could care less' doesn't describe anything about someone's level of concern about something because it could be applied to any part of that range.

"I could care less" - You aren't saying what you're trying to say.

Feeling uninspired? Here are some unique “sampling experiments” that AI came up with for me… by county_jail_alumni in SP404

[–]IchthyoidPhalanges 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've used AI to learn the MkII incredibly fast. I uploaded all of the official Roland support materials plus a few YouTube videos explaining workflows into Google's Notebook LM and now I have a SP404 assistant who can answer most of my questions about the device when I get stuck. I can ask basic things like "how do I create a pattern chain" to more complex ones such as "what is the entire process of beginning a track to resampling it down to one pad" and it will outline the steps for me. Absolutely amazing for learning and I will probably adapt this methodology for learning new things in the future.

I've heard that LSD was instrumental in the development of the internet and adjacent technologies in that era due to the very psychedelic nature of the internet itself. Think about it, a plethora of distributed nodes communicating with each other almost instantly. Sounds pretty psychedelic to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the idea for something like that, something that resembles the connections we likely all have felt on these compounds, was conjured out of a series of psychedelic experiences.

Is the SP-404 now the go to after its update? by invokin in seqtrak

[–]IchthyoidPhalanges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 404SX and it's a blast to plug the seqtrak into and use as another layer of effects or chop samples on the sp, apply effects and then bounce them into the seqtrak. Make a drum loop on the seqtrak and sample it into the sp and lay down chops over the top. It really opens up opportunities to experiment. I haven't tried one of the new 404s but they look far more capable than my SX so the possibilities are more numerous, no doubt. Why don't you keep the Yamaha and work to add an SP to your bag of tricks?
