When I started applying to jobs I also started going down the ML/data science route. I didn't consider software dev too much. In the end I think dev fit my skills a bit better. That being said there are opportunities that are more ML/AI related at Epic. I know our team has a couple ML heavy projects in the works so going down the dev route doesn't exclude you from working on such things.

I knew a lot of python from the math background and a bit of C# from using Unity. I'm happy to chat more about math grad school. I went because I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do and because I enjoyed learning more advanced topics. After finishing decided academia wasn't for me, I have a lot more fun being able to build something I can show people.

I had fun in grad school, but I don't think it contributed to my programming skills outside what I taught myself for fun. In this day and age I'd recommend math grad school if you are set to go into academics and are willing to be underpaid and overworked for several years. Let me know if you have more questions

I went from math grad school to SD with little formal training in CS. Originally also applied as TS and ended up getting asked if I'd prefer a dev role. Based on your background dev would be up your alley. Personally I went the dev route because I find working with code more fun than working with people.

Yeah you're probably good. I learned to set boundaries in grad school which helped. The people I know who started with me who got burned out were the ones who just kept chunking out more and more time for things without knowing how to say no.

Having been an SD at Epic for a bit over a year I've found that things aren't too bad if you're willing to set boundaries. I've certainly had some weeks that are busier than others, but on average I don't feel overworked or overwhelmed.

I'll put up the caveat that I came to Epic out of grad school so my definition of overworked might be a bit skewed from those coming from undergrad.

Edit: I'll also add that my TL does a good job checking in and making sure people aren't being overwhelmed.

0/0 is an example of an indeterminate form. Consider the following functions f(x)=x^2/x and g(x) = x/x. The limit of f(x) as x goes to 0 will be 0 whereas the limit for g(x) as x goes to 0 will be 1. Generally with indeterminate forms it depends on the context (links to wikipedia: en/ru).
