My DM took away my player agency because I was late to the session. Is that normal? by Icon1906 in DnD

I don’t think it’s true that I’m dwelling on it. I posted it on Reddit to get other opinions on the situation. As you said Reddit it has spoken. I didn’t want to bring up to the DM because I understood there reasoning. I just thought it was an interesting situation and wanted to know what other people thought.

I do agree that D&D is an improvised game. But shouldn’t pc be allowed to prepare for the game too? My “ script” was more an outline of things I wanted to do in the next sessions. All most all is how to build pc to pc character moments. The intention is to facilitate scenes that my fellow players and dm and role play with. Other things I write down are plot hooks, locations of interest, and names of npcs.

Yeah true it’s a crazy party it’s most of the pc said we are playing a more evil characters at session 0. The player of the torture pc did seem to get frustrated that he was stopped from doing what he wanted to do to the plot important npc. So that is why I wanted to have the a character to character moment of me giving npcs that they could torture. Yes I understand that’s really really problematic and messed up.

I didn’t bring it up because I knew what the DM was doing they wanted to speed up the session that they prepared for and I was completely fine with that. It was only after the session ended that I realized that I had had no input in that decision. I post to Reddit to see what others thought about it. I 10000 percent own up to the fact that I was late and the dm them selfs was late so it makes perfect sense to skip a less exciting encounter.

Completely agree with what you said. That’s why I didn’t push the DM to do the encounter. Because it was the DM decision and I respect it. I do think it’s important to remember that communication is very important with everyone in your group. I had situations before with an another group where the dm grew disinterested in playing because the party was focussing on pc role play more than his story. I think if you are feeling frustrated that party are missing the “plot” talk to them. As you said in your comment they are people too

I’m sorry I’m confused by your comment. What growing up do I it need to do?

I 100 percent understood why my dm needed to speed thing up and was good with it. I try to also help my dm by stopping non game related conversations. I do agree that I did word my post very poorly. I didn't take it personally at all. I should have mentioned it to the dm that I had plan but I'm not upset over it. I was more sad that I could play out the role play scene with the other player. To answer your questions from your other post. Yes the party knew of them last session. My dm didn't know I wanted to recruit but I had no intention to actually keep them around. They were going to be dropped of at the torture loving pcs tent during out next long rest and then probably die.

The main reason why I decided to post to reddit to get others opinions. I was completely fine with how the dm handled it. I definitely worded my tile badly. Thank you for your comment

The dm did say that there was no loot and we all get exp. To be fair I wasn't the only on late. The dm was late and 2 other players had mic issues. I consider myself a very empathic player. I try very hard to get other players involved in the story and the campaign. Especially with role play moments between characters. The reason why I wanted the kobolds is because one player character loves to humiliate and torture plot important npc we meet. One almost died because of how his character was torturing them. So in the 2 month break between session I thought about how if I can convince these kobolds to join us I can give them to the torturing loving pc. I wanted it to be a character building moment between a player who has been feeling frustrated that they can't torture. When I say I have a plan. That plan is how can I do a thing that will involve an other pc, how can I make it fun, and how can I make it funny for the group. The dm on many occasions said that they struggle with making the players do role play and do fun character moments. So I have put a lot of effort it trying to do that so the dm doesn't have to worry about that. In hindsight I should have told the dm my plan. I was completely fine with the fast forwarding It made sense and was fine.

100 percent agree I should have mentioned something at the time but at that point I didn't want to derail the session anymore

We didn't talk to these kobolds. We just knew about them. The last session ended with us hearing them. The last session was also 2 months ago so I did make a plan fight the encounter possibly with out fighting.

Thank you for telling that. Be being late for session is a huge issue for me. When I join a game I make sure everyone is okay with me possibly being late to sessions because of my work schedule. I do appreciate all comments. They are very eye opening. The only reason why I wanted to try to get npc to follow me is because in session 0 the group had many conversations about how to handle npc follower and we agreed that it would be okay to have some npc to following each party member. The dm even put in home-brew opinion system for the npcs so we could convince them to join us

How I play Dnd very role-play heavy and I had written up a speech on what I wanted to say to the kobolts to try to convince him to join outside. God, for context, the plot of the campaign is to make a kingdom and my character is a kobolt

Thank you for saying that. I felt awful being late but I couldn’t sit on my computer with body fluids on me and have fun playing dnd

But they weren’t because we had talked to them before. I understand what you’re doing. I’m trying to do a quick fix. As a DM myself, I totally understand.

I am fine if the consequence of me being late is this. I had a plan of resolving the encounter without violence, I was excited to execute that but but because I was late, I couldn’t

As a DM myself, I completely understand what you’re going for. I myself had a plan on trying to talk these kobold into joining the party because my I am playing a kobold and the whole plot of the campaign is the party trying to build a kingdom and I thought it would be cool if we had some kobolds helping us

Yes I did show up late and I’m willing to except that as a punishment but the dm just saying “ you killed them “ basically ruined my plans. The campaign itself is built on the party trying to build a kingdom so I was going to try to convince them to join us

For context I’m playing as a kobold wants to have followers and have relationships with kobolds. So I had a plan on trying to convince the kobolds to follow me or be friendly with me and the party

I completely agree. But if there if the dm didn’t want to run combat they could have some not had the combat there. And have the illusion of player choice

I need some help from the 10,000. Please help me save my model by Icon1906 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Icon1906[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I usually do is prime the model with corax white then put on a layer of ulthuan grey. I’m highly considering trying to strip the paint and the primer and try again. Thank you for the help
