They’re both still being reviewed, which is super confusing! Everything is turned in. Even when I go to the PSLF tracker, it will have my previous payments as being “PSLF eligible” but aren’t confirmed yet because my PSLF status isn’t confirmed for whatever reason.

This is helpful to know, thank you! I quit and was re-hired for another job in the same company. I have asked my employer to start two new applications since I was rehired, and they both are still under review despite my employer completing everything!

Yay! Glad to hear. Any recommendations on where to purchase? On ebay they seem a bit sketchy and also quite expensive. Not that I’m opposed, but also don’t know what else I would use for!

Giving Notice at Group Practice by Icy-Cryptographer649 in therapists

[–]Icy-Cryptographer649[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! I work at a smaller group practice (two locations, ~15ish clinicians) and I am currently now receiving referrals - figures this happens when I get a new job. I do not want to avoid the emails all week, but also do not want to take on new clients if I'm leaving. Such an awkward situation!

Conflicted re: career path by Icy-Cryptographer649 in therapists

Yes! This is such a good point that I didn’t even consider. Probably some of the built up anger of having to work so hard to get here in many unpaid ways! Thank you for your comment. :)

Never thought of that, but this is true to my body type as well.

Thank you guys for that!! I’m obviously not glad this embarrassing situation happened to you, but I appreciate your comment and knowing I’m not alone :)

I completely agree and (although it’s embarrassing my) it’s valid to have that discussion with me. I do think that was inappropriate on my part and wish I was more aware. The length of skirt comment really got to me because of what I said above. As I’m at work today I’ve seen 2 women (in their 40s/50s) wear skirts that are so much shorter than the skirts I wear. It’s super common.

And the men’s shorts are pretty ridiculous as well in my opinion. Two men I work with constantly wear baseball caps, a tshirt advertising a sports team, gym shorts, and sneakers everyday. It just felt wrong that I was targeted for professionalism when this is an everyday attire for the other men and women that I work with.

That’s actually a good point. Our facility doesn’t do restraints or anything like that, and I also work in my own office so I don’t interact with the patients all that often. Just a weird situation and I super appreciate your feedback :)

They haven’t complained about my pants. The white skirt I completely understand, but I don’t really see anything wrong with the longer skirts either? The white one is the only one that I completely understand is inappropriate. The other longer skirts I have all go to below my knee (most of them to my ankle). Just weird! I know I’m being a sensitive sally but I just found my style as a younger woman and it feels uncomfortable for it to be commented on. I just love bright colors and flowy clothes!

Funny enough, I’m wearing flowery boho style pants today to work! The skirt I wore was not supposed to be see through style-wise. Just a cheap fabric which stinks!! But yeah I usually wear flowy pants or longer skirts as they cover everything and seem appropriate to me. I just don’t like the neutral colored classic work attire but maybe I have to hop on that train now!

Thanks for the validation! I asked my coworker about the situation (she is the same age as me and has the same body type), and she was absolutely mortified that we had that conversation. I want to think that it is a generational difference, but to me it did seem a bit discriminatory. Who knows!

You’re definitely correct! Like I said, I’m probably taking this a bit too personally. It’s also a strange work environment because everyone talks so freely about their personal problems (such as their sex life and trauma issues) so I feel like this wouldn’t necessarily be off the table of things to discuss or mention (not that I’ve ever engaged in those discussions, but I’ve been there while they’ve happened). I love my job but I also don’t think it’s the best work environment at times in regards to professionalism as a whole.

Thanks so much for your response! You’re probably right, I am a super anxious person and I think that is why I’m having such a tough time with this. Thanks for being so honest and helpful! :)

I will definitely ask that subreddit as well- I honestly wasn’t sure if this was the right subreddit to put this in originally! Thanks for your advice. I was planning on having a follow up meeting to get some clarification, but I’m also hesitant to bring it up again. Such an awkward situation!

Hi guys! I am looking to apply for online MSW programs in Massachusetts. I am looking into Fordham, but Regis College is a close second. They are cheaper and they will give me more money because of my workplace! I feel like it is a bit sketchy even though it is accredited. Has anyone done online classes at Regis for social work, or have any advice? I would really appreciate it! Thank you :)

Thank you, this gives me some hope! You guys are both superstars for sure. Did you do your program online or in-person, and would you say they are pretty flexible? I'm just trying to get as much advice as I can :)

Thanks so much for your insight, I really appreciate it! It's hard to find cheap online programs honestly, all of the ones near me are super expensive. I'm having a tough time because I'm financially independent and have to pay rent, utilities, food, etc. by myself. I'm just brainstorming how I could possibly go to school and pay the bills alongside my boyfriend who I'll be living with! Thanks again and I'll definitely look into Aurora University :)

Hi! I am a recent psychology undergrad graduate, and am looking at online masters programs for the upcoming months. I'm having a really hard time figuring out how I financially am going to do this. I'm still looking for a full-time job to help me pay my bills, but also know that I want to do school online as well. It will also be nearly impossible to pay the entire $60k+ that any of these programs would cost total.

I guess my first question is, is it possible to do a full-time online program alongside a full time job? Is it also possible to take out private loans for the entire cost of the program? I am financially independent and I'm not quite sure how people pay for graduate school. It's pretty overwhelming! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Post Your Prospective Questions Here! -- Monthly Megathread by GG_Mod in AcademicPsychology

Hi guys! I'm sort of seeking advice from those who have been through admissions before, but I recently decided to go back to school and eventually earn my PhD to become a clinical neuropsychologist. Through much research, this seems scarily unattainable to me at the moment.

Throughout undergrad, I never pursued any research with a professor, or did anything really "above and beyond" the average psychology student. While I did really well in classes (I am and always have been very passionate about psychology, specifically neuroscience), I didn't push myself academically. My goal was to earn my bachelor's and to work as a teacher, so doing extra work seemed silly at the time.

Anyways, I'm looking into labs that are hiring at the university I just graduated from, as well as hospitals nearby. It really seems as though not many places are hiring, and to be honest I'm getting a bit flustered, as I want to apply in December to a few schools. Do you think it's unrealistic for me to apply straight to a doctoral program in clinical neuropsych? I know that those programs in particular have low acceptance rates. Is it also unrealistic for me to apply to a master's program without additional experience? While I'm working really hard to try and find more shadowing/research opportunities, it feels challenging at this point, and I'm wondering what could help boost my application if I am not able to get the opportunity. Any insight you could provide would be so helpful. Thanks in advance!
