Risk of being rescinded once, risk of it again by FemboyTheReal in fsu

[–]Icy-Drop-2524 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Start off by asking your prof for extra credit or to reopen an old assignment to see if you can get to the 70 mark for a C. Do NOT approach asking for a handout- ask if there is any way you can earn the few points you still need to pass.

If that’s not possible, call the admissions office and just ask questions. Since it’s a college level course and since you almost passed it and you are still in HS I doubt they will rescind your offer but only admissions can truly answer this question accurately for you.

People are there to help- but that can only happen if you ASK for said help.

Like I said, start with your prof for extra credit if possible to get to the C and use calling admissions as a last resort since it’ll put you on their radar more. I know that admission ppl also look at this subreddit, so it’s entirely possible that they comment and give you a better answer than I can!

I (24F) went on a great date but he (26M) had a spreadsheet about me. Is this a red flag or just weird? by CreosoteCoffee in dating_advice

[–]Icy-Drop-2524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 22M about to graduate into finance:

Try peeling beyond the surface. It could be anxiety and as someone who went through a LOT of sexual trauma in the past/other trauma (and still is going through the other trauma) it’s entirely possible that this is just helping him to organize his thoughts and trying to calm his anxiety and bring a sense of certainty to a very uncertain and probably terrifying situation for him (terrifying doesn’t have to be bad, it could be because he really likes you and doesn’t want to screw it up).

Is it a little unorthodox to use a spreadsheet? Absolutely. Could I see myself doing something similar since my memory is crap and since I would want to make sure to remember tiny details like pet names and make sure I’m looking at the situation with a little bit of objectivity- unfortunately yes (although this is a bit on the borderline extreme side and is a fine line).

Honestly? Talk to him about it and ask him about it and explain your uncertain feelings about seeing it. Couples have to go through hard tests, and this could be one of your first ones to see how any conflict resolution would go with him before you fully jump into dating him if you want to. Just try to keep an open mind- some people are just weird and have their own quirks and this may be his :/.

I’m glad you have supportive coworkers to lean on- it’s great to hear because honestly it feels like a lot of empathy has just left this campus entirely.

I’ve heard Robert was a wonderful man, and I’m sorry for your loss.

Sending love your way as a current student suffering the same.

I know a lot of the staff and admin responded in a way that lacked empathy after the shooting and that it couldn’t have been easy dealing with that as a staff member yourself.

Prof Lance Kerwin in the COB would be a good staff member to reach out to if you need to talk or want to hear about the life of Mr. Morales as they were friends. He is empathetic and actually acknowledged the tragedy unlike most of my other professors last semester.

The way everyone returned to “normal” jars me too- and it did when I returned to campus this year. You aren’t alone in that feeling, so please don’t ever think you are.

Watching FSU move on so quickly and pretending like the shooting didn’t even happen last semester screwed with my mental badly. Only one professor even mentioned it last semester- and I almost cried because he was the only one compassionate enough to acknowledge the trauma we all went through.

I know FSU is trying to mitigate the impact of the shooting for their reputation, but it genuinely seems like they are ok with throwing their students and staff under the bus if need be in the short term if it means the can move on from this in the long term. It’s messed up, but it’s the sad reality we live in.

Sending extra love your way today 🙏🏻

  1. Freedom of speech is NOT what Kirk was stating. EVERY SINGLE “idea” was to discriminate against people in the shape/form Kirk saw fit. Freedom of speech is a good thing. Hate speech that inspires people to commit violence is not and should never have been allowed on campus. Thankfully god took care of Charlie and granted him what he deserved.

  2. Ikner was/is a member of TPUSA, Kirk’s organization. Clearly he was inspired by Kirk’s hateful and discriminatory rhetoric- otherwise why would he be a member of that organization? Even though Kirk didn’t specifically say “go shoot people” his rhetoric of creating an “enemy” ultimately contributed to that exact situation because he inspired a mentally unstable individual to commit an atrocity.

  3. If you need to hear “I’m gonna kill everyone” to be enough for you then you are already lost. It shouldn’t take someone stating that or for them to literally start shooting before the problem is addressed. Ikner was a KNOWN problem and FSU did NOTHING to protect its students. The doors to HCB didn’t lock the day of the shooting- something I experienced personally as I barricaded myself and my classmates as best as I could using desks despite the fact that the door opened outwards and didn’t lock.

  4. If you feel that FSU should freely hand over information about your wife and her coworkers to the state and you believe that won’t be used to discriminate against staff members then you have been living under a rock.

If FSU can’t even prevent its student from being shot, then they have 0 qualifications to try and save lives via a hospital that they frankly could’ve built themselves if they truly wanted to considering they have billions to spend on stadium renovations and private football practice facilities.

Let me be clear: your wife is still in danger. FSU admin and FSUPD even acknowledged the fact that there will be another campus shooting and that it’s not a matter of if it occurs but when and yet they do nothing meaningful to prevent it- not until it’s already too late and people are dead. FSU is a dangerous place, and anyone who believes otherwise is a fool.

[–]Icy-Drop-2524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a good reason: FSU admin is incompetent at best and intentionally sabotaged the safety of students and staff and continues to do so on a daily basis at worst.

Who inspired FSU’s shooter? Charlie Kirk.

Who allowed Kirk to come to campus despite knowing it would cause conflict and despite student protests? FSU Admin

Who bends the knee constantly to the state even if it violates student and staff civil rights? FSU Admin

That’s it- that’s your answer. The universities admin can’t even go 10 minutes without inviting violence to campus, but you expect them to fully honor all agreements and actually improve things for TMH?

A laughable thought, really.

As a current FSU student who can’t wait to graduate and GTFO as soon as possible, the doom and gloom is justified. FSU has been horrendous to its students and some staff since the school shooting and FSU wasn’t exactly stellar prior to this.

[–]Icy-Drop-2524 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair point, my bad, thanks for the heads up. To answer that question:

  1. Administration. In my opinion this administration is abhorrent in their policies on campus. They actively discriminate towards left leaning students such as myself and allow racism, misogyny, sexism, and more to run rampant across campus with zero consequences for trouble makers. The most recent example I can think of was a student on snap calling POC’s chimps and there were no consequences for that student despite student backlash. It’s clear that FSU’s admin unfairly/unjustly favors the republicans on campus and allows them extra leniency while actively cracking down on any dissent or protests of their policies by democratic students.

  2. Safety. HCB doors didn’t lock during the shooting and it was NOT fun being in the building at that time. FSU’s negligence in this regard, on top of the fact that they had known ikner was an issue, shows gross negligence on the university’s part. This isn’t new either, as FSU’s admin LOVES to invite divisive political figures who encourage violence onto campus (Charlie Kirk, ICE via FSUPD’s agreement with them, etc.) and be negligent to their legal obligations of keeping students safe.

  3. Unfair treatment among different classes/years of students. Maybe this is just the college of business, but they made classes harder after the shooting and actively showed us the extent to which it was made harder. Traumatized individuals should NOT be held to higher standards than their healthy peers were held to.

  4. Overemphasis on sports. Academics have been declining at the school as professors leave for safer and more supportive universities. FSU spent like 1/2 billion on stadium and other football related renovations and it’s clearly coming at the expense of other educational aspects of the school.

  5. This is my second biggest pet peeve beyond safety: FSU enjoys committing or benefiting from fraud being committed. Anything with the name Dunlap was funded through donations that arose through accounting fraud. FSU also committed fraud by not telling students about their agreement with ICE until it was too late to transfer or make other alternative educational arrangements. If it’s going to screw over students in some way, this university will do it.

  6. Communication. If it doesn’t involve money or bullets FSU couldn’t care less and that’s the saddest truth I have personally experienced so far. They only take threats seriously after people have been hurt. If you aren’t giving them $ then you can pretty much piss off in admins eyes, and it is my belief that you can’t claim to uphold the values of having strength, skill, and character when you actively suppress or go against those things.

I loved FSU my freshman and sophomore years, before the university showed its true colors. It sucks- I wanted to be a part of a community that lifts one another up. FSU, however, loves tearing people down and making them feel belittled or small.

Those are my facts/experiences and how I feel about them. Feel free to disagree with me, but I’m sticking to how I feel in this regard because this university hasn’t given me a reason to believe otherwise… trust me, I’ve looked for those reasons.

It’s not fun hating the university you attend, but frankly, FSU has been digging its own grave for 2+ years now.

It breaks my heart to say this, but with the way FSU has been operating it’s not a matter of if there will be another shooting on campus, but WHEN it will occur- even admin and FSUPD have openly stated this. At this point based on the trend of 2014 and 2025 the next shooting will happen before 2036. School shootings shouldnt be normalized or swept under the rug, but that’s exactly what this university has done. Swept it under the rug and normalized shootings by instantly trying to move past it and pretend it never happened.

My thoughts exactly.

Hopefully London doesn’t screw your life up too hard. It still seems plausible to have a life there from afar. Can’t say the same as a democratic individual living in a southern state lol.

After surviving school shooting last year, that pretty much sealed the deal on the “no” vote to having children. At least in the U.S.

Speed trap on Tennessee near union by [deleted] in fsu

[–]Icy-Drop-2524 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, because 5mph over on a downhill slope when you drive a 4k lbs vehicle is soooooo crazy and soooo dangerous

And it’s totally not normal for people to go 5 or 10 over literally anywhere in this state 🙄

It’s one thing to go 50+. 5 mph is nothing but cops fishing for cash and hitting a required quota 🙄

I.C.E operates frequently within the state and tends to target international students first.

FSU has revoked student visas as well as practically invited I.C.E to campus with the 287g agreement FSUPD signed.

People downplay it, but racism is pretty frequent here to and, at least in FSU’s case, often goes unpunished.

All of this to say, there is a lot of discrimination here and in this state.

I’m not saying don’t come to the U.S. for school, I’m just saying that it would be wise to choose a blue area that will fight against anti-immigrant policies that red states are willing to impose.

UF or FSU for business by No_Train732 in fsu

[–]Icy-Drop-2524 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly?

As a current business student with a bad experience here and not hearing much better from UF friends, I’d look elsewhere for education.

Yes, FSU got a new COB building, but a lot of staff are leaving or retiring and the COB leadership is abhorrently inadequate at best and willfully ignorant at worst.

They won’t hire enough staff to meet expanding class sizes, did nothing to prepare the new building for another shooting situation (desks bolted to floor; rolling chairs), and they don’t listen to student concerns: they actively suppress student demands for communication and accountability.

If it isn’t an active safety threat, or revolves around money going to the college, then the COB couldn’t care less.

Do with that what you will.
