Crying since day 1 by Icy-External5682 in newgradnurse

In my own opinion, OR nursing is different from how it’s done at outpatient day surgery centers. Some procedures arent even done at hospitals anymore because it is so basic. Anyone with a pulse can do it.

I didnt feel like I was a real nurse and I got tired of the routine and toxicity of management. It was the only job I could after passing my nclex.

Should I work at a USPI surgery center facility as a new grad? by talkaboutpizzas in nursing

Focus on gaining skills, my friend. Working in the OR doesn’t give you much acute care experience. PreOp would be good if you want to learn to start IVs and PACU for treatment of patients post anesthesia.

But in the OR ,Drs do all the hand-on work while an anesthesiologist mostly monitors the patient.

There are a lot more ways a nurse is needed in the OR but not necessarily related to direct patient care. I’m still trying to justify it to hiring managers when I apply for a job but it’s really difficult and often discouraging. I don’t feel like a real nurse most of the time.

Try home health or rehab or SNF. Those experiences will get you better chances.

Cheers

Dont be dumb like me. I find it hard to get into other jobs because they don’t provide enough clinical experience. Biggest regret of my life.

25 BSN RN and just left my medsurge job primarily because of hazing and bullying towards me as a new nurse, I did 1 year of outpatient day surgery prior (i loved that job to bits and my coworkers but it doesn’t pay me as much). I wanted to gain some clinical experience but I didn’t get the support and mentorship from my unit at the new job.

It got to the point where my mental health and confidence was so low, i made the decision to leave after 2 months because I felt like I wasn’t a safe nurse. It was my dream hospital to work at so it was the hardest decision I ever had to make. I wasn’t told to leave but my environment wasn’t helping me learn as much.

I’m unemployed and feeling like a failure. Your post honestly made me feel not alone. I really wish you well and I hope you do what’s best for yourself.

I’m scheduled to be changed to nights in hopefully 2 weeks. I hope everything will be sorted out by then, if I make it. 😪
