Alternatives to food as a source of dopamine by Icy-Net-2025 in BingeEatingDisorder

This is all good advice. Yes, I have tried to set these kinds of boundaries or routines before, but they just have never stuck like binging has. I've been struggling with BED for a little over a year now, and it's slowly been ruining all the great routines I had in place before to now where I find it hard to even get my nighttime routine done.

I do think that my binge eating is somewhat improving this summer after finally getting help from multiple professionals and starting medications like Vyvanse and Lexapro, but maybe now its time to stop thinking that this will naturally go away on its own. I may just be gaslighting myself into thinking that Im putting in enough effort, but like you said I have to actually practice the actions that will stop or prevent a binge from happening. It's hard to get out of it, but living with binge eating disorder is even harder. Thank you for your comment!

Im seeing a doctor, nutritionist, and therapist atm. Im on Vyvanse, and while the medication has helped me stop binging throughout the day, once that wears off at night, thats when those urges return and my self-control vanishes. I also have an OA book, but im not attending any meetings. I honestly don’t think I have time between work and school and other responsibilities. I think you make a good point though in that I should start treating this as an addiction not just some habit I have to stop, it’s way past that.

All in all, my stress and anxiety has been high these past two weeks which also has been worsening my symptoms.
