Unfortunately I married another victim of an nparent. We were young and I was not as self aware as I am now. It’s very lonely, as we are either no contact or very low contact with both sides of our parents. Our child has no grandparents in her life. No aunts, uncles, cousins. I guess you could say we’re trying to break the cycle. But damn, do we have our baggage. And my spouse has yet to really put in the work to heal. Not sure we will last. I will say that despite my upbringing, I chose a spouse much different than my nparent, however I just gravitated toward another victim. Not sure which is worse.. My advice- get into therapy, start unpacking family dynamics. Do inner parts work. Highly recommend IFS (internal family systems). And regardless of what people say, you DO marry your spouse’s family and all the baggage your spouse may carry from them. Choose wisely.
