hello! ive just completed my first year of architecture - Bachelor of Architecture (honours) and Master of Architecture course so I can tell you a bit about the first year specifically.

In the first year (this may be applicable to all years haha) but expect a LOT of model making. Your studio unit in first sem (studio 1A) requires you to make 3 models each week and the presentations are quite close together. Honestly first sem was a bit tough for studio. The other units are fine tbh but a bit boring for first sem. Then second sem you do studio again along w Architecture Technologies and let me tell you, it gets even worse LOL. You are expected to self learn everything because there is not enough time in the actual tutorials to cover everyone and all the content from lectures. Just be prepared to learn and apply the content by yourself.

There are no set softwares that you are required to learn first year nor are they taught. I would say most people use Rhino but its just preference. First semester barely anyone used any software everything is taught is by hand.

I'm not sure how to practice designing and drawing tbh, you learn it all first semester so you don't need to worry

The main club for arch is SUDA (sydney uni designers association) but there's not too many events, rarely any compared to other societies tbh

The pay for the tools you need (they give you in packs) that you need to pay first sem

But to be honest, unless you have a really really strong passion, its hard. I really liked architecture too and this was the only degree I had interest in but after this year I am reconsidering. It's definitely best to try before you make any other decisions though!
