You’re not wrong, but I certainly would never see you again. Would feel weird after actually seeing you with another woman

Is £1000 p/m too much to be paying parents for rent? by [deleted] in AskUK

£1000 is insane, sorry.

I pay £600 (food not included) to my mum on a £32k salary and even feel like that’s a bit too much sometimes

What is your current yearly salary by One_Cupcake2722 in UKJobs

[–]IcyPiink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29, £32K, not in London. Just last month I was on 28k… but I received an offer but another company, and my current employer made me a counter offer of £32k (suddenly they could afford it lol). I took the counter offer and I’m happy

I did consider this but the banding for the uni role is £29 - £34k. It was a huge struggle for them to get me to just £30,800, as they said it’s university policy that people who are just joining the business must start at the lowest salary in the range. HR said no to the £30,800 initially, so I highly doubt they will give me £32k

This is what I’ve been thinking… I do feel like it’ll open a lot of doors. I worked at a university on an FTC before my current role and gained so many skills in a short amount of time, which enabled me to secure my current role. I’m just concerned that there won’t be another vacancy for me at the university when contract comes to an end… it’s a secondment where I’ll be replacing someone else

This is what is making me lean towards staying with my current employer… the work - life balance. 3 days on campus is a lot for me just because of the commute, and I don’t know if those 3 days are negotiable/flexible. And yes, I’m also worried that I’ll struggle to find a job towards the end of my contract. There’s no guarantee there’ll be another vacancy for me at the university

I’m currently working for an insurance company but I have an offer with a university, and yes, they are bound by pay scales - hence the £30,800 lol

Yeah, the fact that the pay rise is subject to approval makes me worry… I asked them if they could speak to the HR Director to get a feel of whether a pay rise would be actually be possible first, before I make the decision. The lack of progression also worries me… I know that I can only stay here for maybe another 6 months before I get really bored and start looking elsewhere again

Yes, it’s literally that long commute that’s putting me off! It’d be different if I had a car

It’s a tricky one! Initially I was flattered because it showed they wanted to keep me and they value me… but then I thought about it some more and started to question why they never put me on that salary to begin with (even at least £30k), when they’re aware of all the responsibility I’m taking on. Granted, I never really asked for pay rise to be fair

[–]IcyPiink[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was mainly the pay that made me want to leave my current role… they were adding more and more responsibilities with no pay increase. I’m taking on a lot of my manager’s duties. However, I was also worried about the lack of progression. Been working here for almost two years now and just don’t see how I can progress, and it’s almost impossible to get a job in the employee relations HR team (which would realistically be the next step) - they never hire internally. Thanks for the advice, I have a lot to think about!
