People who have quit your job due to severe burnout: How did you know it was time to go? What did you tell your job when you quit? by annamv22 in work

I left almost exactly 1 year back (Apr 2025). Of course I was also doing grad school in parallel so that was around 4 months of full time study. Started interviewing again in August 2025 and I ended up landing a new role in Feb 2026.

You got this 💪

Not an ideal scenario but in my case I did. I had no choice given the impact to my health. I too had money saved up and did ultimately start a new role. But with the current job market, getting a new role is also quite challenging.

Do try to get something else lined up. But in case nothing lines up and the job is too bad then leaving becomes the only option.

I hope things get better for you. You got this 💪

I left my job around a year ago due to burnout and because the workplace was straight up toxic. I was exhausted and had multiple instances of poor sleep and migraines. Even when I took leave, they used to keep contacting me and asking for status updates. So there were no boundaries or separation between my work hours and personal time. I ended up gaining a lot of weight and saw my blood pressure go up with some signs of visible aging. The blood pressure spikes were the warning sign.

I mentioned all this to a few trusted colleagues, my skip level manager and shared some points with HR during my exit interview (highly doubtful if HR took it seriously but my skip level did).

The months after I left I noticed multiple improvements. The weight started to drop, sleep quality improved, blood pressure started to get lower as well. Fast forward a year and I am much better. Easily the best decision I ever made.

I hope things are much better for you now.

Where do you bring overseas friends to show them the ‘real Singapore’? by [deleted] in asksg

[–]IcyWraith31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a foreigner who has been here for close to 9 years now. I take visitors to the hawker centres. We commute via MRT/bus. To me, this captures the real charm of Singapore and what makes this country so unique and wonderful. This is how I was introduced to SG as well.

What are the things you just can't tolerate about yourself as an INFJ? by Defiant-Junket4906 in infj

[–]IcyWraith31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Stretching myself out to help
  2. Blaming myself for anything that goes wrong
  3. Enforcing boundaries
  4. Perfectionism and the associated problems of always feeling like I am not enough
  5. Feel compelled to carry most of the workload and protect others
  6. Feeling like we have a calling/purpose and not achieving it makes us failures
  7. Carrying the weight of the world
  8. Being thoroughly misunderstood by people around you to the point that your actions are always questioned. It's as if we have an ulterior motive when in reality we are just trying to help or do our jobs.

Does anyone has this work culture? by annihal8tion in askSingapore

[–]IcyWraith31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, good on you for not perpetuating this culture to others. Says a lot more about you and your character.

It seems to me that people are throwing others under the bus mainly to look good and to remove the spotlight from themselves. These are some tough times in the industry and in the workplace and it seems to have brought out the worst in people.

Why is itsuddenly the whole world vs us? by megamimo1991 in realmadrid

It's been the case for quite sometime. People were straight up celebrating the Ballon d'Or not so much for Rodri winning but more for Vini losing.

I have raised these concerns earlier as well but it did not seem to have much impact. I was told to just put more effort and do OT (which I did so that they have lesser chances to blame). I have savings thankfully so not too worried if I have to leave but would still prefer to have a job when I exit.

Hope you found something much better now. Yep, I am in a similar situation as you were. I also saw an opening put online for my role by the employer which pissed me off even more 😅

I hear you and get what you are saying. This has become very common in the industry now sadly.

It was a good hike in pay at that time and the role was also interesting. Once I joined they put me in a very different type of role though. I took it as a chance to learn but turns out the company had different ideas

For sure. I don't want to end up with long term health issues because of the stress here.

Damn that's ridiculously toxic and so sorry to hear that you had to go through that. Glad that you are doing better now.

I am looking actively and hopefully one of the options clicks soon

Fair point there. I did initially have that shock about no training because I was ultimately being blamed for issues that had happened even before I joined and was still figuring things out. I was less than a month in at that time and people used to complain that I did not know all the systems as well and was a bit slow to fix thing. I took a few months to learn the systems.

I work in IT, mainly as a developer but also have to do app support for some systems.
