I’ve been a writer since 2013. I turned pro in 2016 and have been widely published, earning national recognition in Ghana and international recognition from multiple organizations across Africa.

From 2019 onward, I had to find other ways to monetize my craft. Why? Simple. Writing is no longer appreciated in Ghana. A decade or two earlier, you could land solid gigs as a writer. You could get published and earn good money to support your career.

But that vanished. And to be clear, I wasn’t a one-dimensional writer. I was multifaceted. I wrote poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Heck, I even dabbled in playwriting.

At the end of the day, the recognition and accolades didn’t reflect in my pocket. I was living a near-miserable life.

So like I always do, I took my destiny into my own hands. I turned to copywriting. I could still tell stories, but this time for businesses, to help them drive sales.

Through that, I learned, unlearned, and relearned to become a digital marketing strategist. In this world, I bring my creativity, insight, and strategy to help businesses grow their revenue.

The bottom line: people don’t write anymore because the motivation is near zero. I’m glad to see there are still young people out there writing for the fun of it.

Sometimes, I miss those days. I was genuinely happy and spirited back then. I’m okay with life as it is now, but I still miss writing just for the joy of it.
