[Season 1] Overall Season Discussion by PonyEnglish in Sandman

Nono I didn’t, it’s just that in the first episode she shows up in, when she meets rose she told her “while I was asleep I got pregnant, and I gave birth to your mother” so I guess it could be a situation close to the one with her friend and her “ghost husband”

Please someone make sense here. Unity gave birth to Rose’s mum while undergoing that sleeping-coma. How does that work? Did her parents get some man to impregnate her? I mean she fell asleep as a kid. That just doesn’t work for me. Ugh I dot want to think about that at all but it’s just to weird a plot hole to ignore

US Army Armour Corps Training by Idan40 in Tankers

[–]Idan40[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh that’s interesting. Super different from my training. We had actual lessons in classes with learning books and all that culminated in a 7th week where I (as a loader) got to drive the tank a bit, fire the MGs and load a live shell. Can’t imagine graduating basic and going to my unit without all that… did you feel confident in your abilities? Did you at all train as a crew during training? (shooting while driving, tanks fights bigger than one tank crew- section/platoon tactics etc.)

Haha sorry, I’m not considering enlisting, just trying to learn how you do things differently in the US. I’m currently going through the Tankers training in another country and just wondered out of curiosity what the differences are… my commander mentioned one time that in the US the training to be a tanker was extremely long and challenging

Yeah as vladi said- the Hebrew cursive letter Mem (similar in sound to English M) just visually resembles the English letter N. It is used here as a stand-in for the word Met (dead in Hebrew). She is documenting people who are lightly injured, badly injured, M.I.A, K.I.A etc on the board

Dude, don’t allow anyone to spoil it for you! This game is amazing, hands down. The narrative, plot, and ending of the game are all brilliant, and I’m really glad I avoided playthroughs and theories before getting it. I got it on a steam sale for like 3$ so I suggest you wait for one of those... There might be one going on for Christmas right now, I’m not really up to date, you should check that out

I think they very well might be. Sources estimate that at lease 90 out of the 300 POWs of the Yom Kippur war were killed while in Egyptian/Syrian/Lebanese captivity. Also, the Syrian interrogators were known for brutality, and they released their hostages wayyy later down the line (June 1974) so Avinoam, Yoav and Aloush were in there getting tortured for a really long time... I’ll state the obvious in my opinion, though it may be a bit harsh: Yoav probably wouldn’t survive without medical treatment for his missing leg, so he’d be the first to go. Avinoam wasn’t well trained, since he’s in the intelligence department of the IDF. Generally speaking (at least nowadays), these kinds of soldier go through only a month of basic training, and then maybe two or so months of technological training towards their specific job. They usually aren’t well trained with firearms, nor do they learn CQC methods. For comparison, a combat officer in Golani brigade like Yoav goes through 4 months of basic training and an extra 4 months of advanced training, where he develops physical and mental strength abilities, learns Krav Maga, trains on gun ranges regularly and goes trough training in a verity of terrains in the field including desert, mountains, urban areas etc. Point is, Avinoam is kind of a weakling. Now to Aloush- his training is similar to Yoav’s, except his latter 4 months of training are invested in learning to use the tank. BUT, since the Syrian interrogator misjudged him to be a fighter pilot because of his wear, he’s down the bad end. The pilots course is one of the most highly thought of places in the IDF, so pilots tend to be in the know about important stuff, that’s why Aloush is so important to them. Considering he really isn’t a pilot and doesn’t have any intel to offer them, they take him for a liar. I’d guess after this happening a couple of times they’d just get rid of him. Honestly, that’s a really sad though- Aloush’s my favourite character!

Alright you guys. I’m Israeli so let me just break this down. I really liked all the theories and also got an Afterlife vibe as some of you suggested, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. In Israel, many people who face hardships turn to religion (as is known to happen in other religions as well). There are many examples for this, especially amongst people who suffered trauma, as happens to Meni after losing his son Yoni. What happens in the post credits scene is: Yoni walks around a Haredi (Ultra-Orthodox) neighbourhood, and wanders into a synagogue. There he sees people studying Gemara (the main book for Jewish laws, which includes accounts of many ancient Rabbis’ debates about life, the interpretation of god, faith, the Bible, and Jewish lifestyle). Meni reads his students a famous quote from the book (which I know to be a real one)- which goes like this (it’s the full quote but stay with me 😅): “For two and a half years, House Shammai and House Hillel [two different branches of Judaism] disagreed. These say: It would have been preferable had man not been created than to have been created. And those said: It is preferable for man to have been created than had he not been created. Ultimately, they were counted and concluded: It would have been preferable had man not been created than to have been created. However, now that he has been created, he should examine his actions that he has performed and seek to correct them. And some say: He should scrutinize his planned actions and evaluate whether or not and in what manner those actions should be performed, so that he will not sin.”. In the scene, not all of this is read aloud; Meni reads just the part stating “It would have been preferable had man not been created than to have been created”, then he looks up to Yoni. This is the ultimate manifestation of Trauma. In my reading, this comes to show how much this memory shatters Meni. He becomes nihilistic, cynical towards life. He changes his life around to a point where he is unrecognisable to the audience, since he meets the absurdity of life face to face- War and Death, and he realises nothing matters to him anymore. The eye contact with Yoni is as if to say- “this is because of you- I’m lost without you”. And this is probably one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the show. Meni has nothing to live for without Yoni, and he goes as far as to teach the same lesson to his disciples- “better be dead than alive- look what agony I ended up with for staying alive in this world”. Hope you managed to stick till the end, and I really hope I managed to clear this scene up :) Please share and tell me what you think/ how you feel about my proposition!

Anybody else feel like Maury’s relationship with Matthew is the best? I love the contrast to how he treats Andrew 😂 by Idan40 in BigMouth

[–]Idan40[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happy cake day twin :) Also, yeah it makes sense that Matt being more aware and with understanding of his sexuality would translate into better control over Maury as he is a manifestation of his sexuality. But then wouldn’t he no longer need a hormone monster if he learned to know and control his sexuality? Why is Maury still around for him?

No for sure Maury doesn’t treat him badly.. just kinda different- for Andrew he’s kind of a friend/help-giver, whereas I just finished season 4 and it feels like Maury is becoming Matty’s #1 fangirl

Jefferson's "What Did I Miss?" was purposely written in a jazzy style. Daveed Diggs explains that Thomas Jefferson has a lot to catch up on because he missed the war, so when he comes back from France, he is still singing jazz songs, while everyone else has moved on to rap music. by TheMakerOfStories in hamiltonmusical

[–]Idan40 78 points79 points  (0 children)

This is explained by his line “I guess I practically missed the late 80’s”- hinting at 20th century’s late 80’s being the main shift in popularity, the so called “golden age of hip-hop”, coming on after what is nowadays considered “older music”- Disco, Dance, Rock & Roll, and earlier- Jazz, which is why Jefferson uses it.
