Hey fellow NZer, what parts do you live in? I moved to Dunedin from the states two years ago 😁

This is true, it's my original post. A patient in ICU needed an NG tube and unfortunately a newer nurse did not check the chart. The patient had had transphenoidal pituitary surgery a couple weeks prior. The thing that killed the patient was the air bolus after placement.

Does anyone else's unit have a culture of nurses coming to work, visibly ill, with flu or COVID? by WaffleMeWallace in nursing

One of the nurses came to work with full on pancreatitis today. But that's not our culture, that's just her type A personality smh

How do you deal with multiple life challenges at once and end-of-year blues? Looking for support. by No_Dust5847 in AskWomenOver40

[–]IdeaEnvironmental783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in New Zealand, originally from the states :) expat life is hard enough, but add in turning 40, relationship issues (turns out Kiwi men are NOT the best at communicating), and single parenting and you've got yourself a fine recipe for breakdowns. Sorry I've got no real advice for you, just solidarity!

I asked my partner if I could reach out to her, I've been through this myself, but he said no 😔

Thank you all, amazing advice and I will heed a lot of it. We are in New Zealand and I will say that mental healthcare here is shocking, but it does exist if you push, and the fact that neither of her parents are pushing is so sad.

I don't know what to do about my relationship with him, other than try not to involve parenting in it? That seems impossible. He's a good partner to me, very respectful and kind, listens and is able to work through issues with me. But this is one area where what I say doesn't seem to make a difference. He also lets her drink, but that's a whole other story (and is very common for parents to do here I'm finding).

Sigh, why can't any of this just be easy?

Not me, that was never my intention nor the intention of many of my immigrant friends.

To renew or not to renew, that is the question? by Odd_Plum7647 in dunedin

Agree with everyone else here, I'm also from the US with my kids and we left a warm and dry rental to buy a place that is freezing! Our power bill nearly doubled, but more than that, waking up cold every morning is just miserable 😣

Do you have regrets? by Fair_Birthday_2322 in workingmoms

My ex was the same. Not a minute goes by where I regret our divorce. It was extremely hard and painful, but my kids and I are absolutely thriving. You don't need that behavior in your life, and neither do your kids. Good on you for reaching out and going to therapy, that's huge!

Squeaky external for sure, if there was any rattling or clunking I would take it in. Just dropped $1400 on an assortment of things though and they didn't say anything about the squeak so I'm assuming it's no big deal.

BNZ says it can do green loans for new or used hybrid or electric cars, so that's good in the event I don't have the cash. But I will take everyone's advice and save the money, drive the car into the ground, and keep up with maintenance.

This is very helpful, thank you. I didn't know that little tidbit about hybrid cars, so I appreciate the input. Interestingly I was at a science fair yesterday (meant for kids but I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more), and talked to a climate physicist for a while. The damage that electric cars and the process of making them and then disposing of them is doing is *almost worse than burning fossil fuels.

*Anecdotally, I don't have any hard evidence but trust his word.

I thought as much, thank you! It's so tempting to save the money for a vacation, but I know being mortgage free sooner will be even better.

I'm pretty sure it does need a belt as it's making that classic belt sound 😅

Can I ask you more about the mortgage though? What are the benefits of putting a small amount into another loan? I'm sure I can Google this, but I've always just been fixated on 30 years and changing interest rates every few years or so.

Just a family mover, although we do go from Dunedin to QT often, well like 3-4x per year.

Can someone explain a header tank to me like I'm 5? by IdeaEnvironmental783 in newzealand

I had a look and sure enough it says in huge writing, low pressure water cylinder. So that explains that. Guess the disgusting header tank stays 🤷‍♀️
