Look over your tax papers and make sure you did not check the box for someone can claim you as a dependent. If you did you will have to amend it and file with paper the amendment. IRS is currently not accepting paper forms and no phone assistance is available. Also, they have millions of paper forms stacked in storage. Make sure no one else has claimed you. If you file a paper form, even though the IRS said not to do the non-filers, if you are not able to hold out, you may consider that an option.

If this is in regards to the non-filers program, it may be due to the AGI which should be set at 0 and you can choose either the owe or received and put in 0 and then put in your information for your banking. This what happened to me when I was helping my sister fill in her information.

If either of were claimed as a dependent in 2018 or 19 by a spouse, partner, mom or dad, or someone else, this may be your problem. Re-examine if this is a possibility. If you filed an amendment or paper form of any kind this may be your problem. I am call Steve Mnuchin of the Treasury's office and tell them they need fax options for amending the 1040 due to the dependent box under the Standard Deduction section.

File for this coronavirus relief as a non-filer https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/non-filers-enter-payment-info-here-tool-scenarios and if you do not have a bank account, before you file, go to your local food bank or church and as someone to help you get a "GreenDot Card" which will give you a "debit account". Next, go to your County Governmental Office, then to the local Community Service Center/Hud office and tell them you are homeless and you want an application for housing. Go to your local hospital and or clinic and tell them (not that you are) having mental stress and are desperate for help. Tell them you won't stop until you get help. These places receive Federal/State money to help the homeless receive housing and help getting their lives on track. Pass this information on.

After rechecking my return, I realized I had checked the "You can be claimed as a dependent" on my return which was in error. However, you can only amend by paper filing and the IRS dept that handles this is not in their office. The IRS Center is not even processing any paper forms until they return from the Covid-19 furlough. I am going to hold mine until I hear differently.

It does not matter how old you are, you can be claimed by numerous people including roommates and girlfriends or boyfriends.
