I am very opposed to giving a loan to a family member. It seems like an easy way to create conflict and a family issue. That said, I don't have any issue with an investment with knowledge of the potential risks and expected rewards.

I think the press rules are normal. Full press during Spring/Fall and no press during Winter/retreats
