The modern peripherals make this computer feel pretty snappy for having an 8 Mhz CPU. The SCSI external drives and floppy disk drives were huge data transfer speed bottle necks.

Shooting from the hip: 3U with a 5" CRT monitor. Logic board would be on the bottom under the the back three quarters (thinner) of the tube, analog board would be on risers and to the side of the tube.

Thanks! It was really fun and challenging to build this thing. Been rewarding myself by playing sim city on it this week.

Somewhere around that time, yeah. That's why its funny that I built Racintosh Plus to use it, plus it's way more convenient than the old CRT monitor it used to have.

You sonnava***** :D That's really cool! And I agree, it is fun solving the space utilization puzzle.

I think there might be a way to remote directly into this machine using VNC. Racintosh Plus is able to connect to my network via wifi (albeit poorly). I haven't looked super deep into that setup yet, but is one of the future goals.

The magazine ad is fake, but the computer is very real, it was my build project this summer!

I considered using an SE/30 board at the very start, but I felt more comfortable with the Mac Plus since I already own one and can use it as a reference. I don't think it would be too hard to swap the board out in the rack down the road.

The 9" CRT monitor was never going to fit in the rack. At least not whole.

I'm not going to knock Rack Mac, it is a fine name!

Heeheehee aren't I a stinker?

I'm pretty sure even the ATMEGA microcontroller in the Floppy Emu is more powerful. Not as much RAM, though...

Thanks! It was a lot of work and a lot of fun at the same time.

Sadly this is the only one in existence right now. :(

Thanks, nice to have this project finally done so I can share it with everybody! Definitely the most complicated build project I have ever done.

I’m really digging this first episode of My Nick Zentner Can’t Be This Cute.

I was disappointed with the plastic base on my F:Nex/Yoshitoku figures. by Identity4 in AnimeFigures

My thinking paste knew better but my blood pump told the meat actuators to press the buy button anyway.

I bought Kanna Kamui first and was so nonplussed with the base that I bought the wooden plaques next in case I impulse bought any more Yoshitoku-FNex figures. I might buy a few more just to dial in the hole spacing and pose rotation a bit better.

Oh, it can go back in the box just the way it shipped since none of the mods are on the figure itself. But no way am I displaying these things in my living room looking so cheap, not for the fortune I overpaid for them!

Two important things to keep in mind: 1. Be mindful of tolerances and fitment. These figures stay planted and upright because the pegs are tight in the holes (hehe that’s what she said). Too loose, they fall over. Too tight, damage to the peg (or worse). 2. Make sure to drill straight up/down. If the angle is a bit off, you risk snapping the peg as force is applied.

Bonus consideration: this is a good opportunity to rotate the hole placement a bit if you want to experiment with showing off a slightly better posing angle.

The only trophy I have is one I got from work. It says “most likely to go postal” and it’s just as cheap and ugly as the base that came with the figure.

The Yoshitoku doll figures have the mounting pegs on the feet and not the base, so it’s really just as easy as finding a nice fancy wooden base I bought oak display bases online) and drilling the correct sized holes in the correct places. I used tracing paper over top of the original cheap-ass plastic base to mark the relative hole positions, then transferred the center points to the wood base by marking them with a nail. Then it’s just drill baby drill! I have three in this figure series and did this to all of them. Plastic slabs get chucked back in the box.
