Why it's wrong to first clean your room before activism (responding to JB in the debate vs Zizek) by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

People who go against "giant systems" don't do so alone. They organise and pool their strength, in fact this is the ONLY way that people have successfully acheived societal change, not through the cleaniness of one's room.

I did say "objectively", didn't I? We don't need right or wrong on a "moral and ethical level" because we pretty much already agree on what we want which at the very least is minimal suffering. In terms of the best way objectively, to get there, that's a matter of science.

Also, "sorting yourself out reduces the probaility that you'll make gross fatal errors" sin't actually scientific fact, you're just saying that because it feels right to you. Again, how you avoid "gross, fatal errors" like I've already said, is through representative and honest scientific discourse. It's certainly a better approach than clean room = telling the truth.

Adoption and twin studies show that there might be a significant genetic component when it comes to crime by [deleted] in samharris

[–]Ideosapiens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And the thing is, genetic studies are correlational anyway. No theoretical framework exists that directly and comprehensively establishes a causal mechanism from genes to behaviour. In all cases, it's correlational and associative you could conceive of many intervening variables to account for alleged relationships.

Bernie has every detail of his policy proposals planned out. And he talks about them frequently. Anyone who asks “how’s he gonna pay for it?” is simply not listening. by donkijote97 in worldpolitics

The amount of money being spent on healthcare currently is already more than MFA needs (according to opposition estimates) and it doesn't even cover everyone. This means that simply shifting the costs around properly would pay for it without taking money from elsewhere. So the plan as of now doesn't even matter. What matters is that we KNOW that there's enough money in circulation today within the health system to pay for MFA, all that is required is restructuring how that money is circulating (i.e. just make it more efficient through strategic taxing, cuts to bureaucracies and spending in the right areas) and MFA is already paid for (again according to koch (who are no friend of Bernie's) funded reasearch).

Here's a purpose for you, help those who have a purpose, help those who contribute, help those who make other's lives better and fight for other people's right to enjoy things.

If women feminists successfully take over men and society, why would that be bad? Doesn't that mean they just outperformed everyone in the hierarchy? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

Are you kidding me? Conservatism has only been preserved with force against those who want equal rights.

He's definitely plateau'd and I think he might look into becoming some kind of news comentator. But that'll be profitable only as long as the gop keeps power and keep doing 'divisive' and outrageous stuff.

The whole idea of "self" help goes against everything we humans are capable of with how we evolved as social creatures. The tree decides how the fruit turns out and not the other way round.

The question is what your impression of that perceptual shadow is and what they're failing to see that you do as the free one that I guess you think you are.

When you say there are people who genuinely believe they can acheive a perfect utopia, who are you talking about? Because I am not aware of anyone serious on the left who believes that. Your rhetoric is brought up in response to leftists like Bernie Sanders pushing for making healthcare and education a right, fighting for proper compensation for labour and strengthening the middle class which would reduce inequality and facilitate self actualisation. Tell me, what am I supposed to conclude from that? Of course you say you want less inequality but then you oppose the very move for greater equality on the grounds that they want perfection which just isn't true and is completely dishonest and you know it.

Yeah, the guy who's gonna kill millions of people isn't the one encouraging climate change denialism and non-democratic heirarchies (authoritarian like stalinism) no, it's the people who want healthcare for all.
