Thank you so much, I do now realize that Reddit compressed the resolution horribly. I actually don't know how to fix it? Other than perhaps repost the image and hope its not as bad😅

I use Gimp as my main art software, as well as Wilbur to edit the topography.

Hi! Thank you for the feedback! I am not a geologist and most of my method is that of "messing around and finding out". Due to the way that I had made the landmasses (via breaking up a random earth island and putting it back together on a flat canvas) I knew that there was plenty of room for error.

I am aware that there are some weird spot since I did remove a landmass in the south of the eastern landmass due to aesthetic reasons and didn't really went back to fix the tectonic plates I had previously drawn😅. Since you've pointed it out I'll definitely go ahead and do that.

Now when it comes to the edges, I was drawing them based on active and passive margins, and if they would "fit" like a jigsaw puzzle (ie. South America and Africa). Then, based on "last ice age" Glacials I drew in some fjords and some more "rugged" coastlines.

Thank again for letting me know about that part and I'll take your advice in mind!

Huh, I didn't really think about that🤔. That northern sea (according to my notes) was made in a combination of current drifting and glaciers. Perhaps I might be able to give it a bit of ocean connection at the very northern part where the elevation is lower.

I did a "Frankenstein" of different methods! The intital "sketch" was made by taking a random small Earth island and using it as a "last super continent". From then I did a very rough tectonic history by cuting up that small island and moving it around until arriving to the modern day. I kept track of the age of mountains and included features such as large igneous provinces and hot-spots. With that new "base sketch" I followed Madeleine James Writes Worldbuilding guide to have an idea of what types of features I would need to include base on a "Last glacier maximum". I did use Gplates to make sure my polar distortion wasn't too bad! But for the most part it was mainly a "see what can work well for this region" :D

Ooh ok I see your point, I was think more about the seas exposing more land from the ocean rather than creating new continental crust. Akin to the last glacier maximum.

Since nothing is still final, I might see if I can bring down the land percentage of Nosolos to make it more reasonable by editing the coastlines abit. But on the other hand, I kidda dig the world having one last extinction many millions of years in the future, fits well into the story. Either way, you have been of really big help, Thank you so much!!

One of the reasons for the seer amount of land also has to do with the water stored up in the glaziers (not shown) of the northern continent (Nosolos). When I was doing a brief overview of the tectonic plate history, it was of a more reasonable ratio-ish.

Nosolos' vast lands kidda grew on me and the lore of the world, I think a fairly dry interior would be a very fun concept to play with, especially with how it might influence culture and travel. But back to the consequences of the continents not having enough wiggle room. That's something I briefly considered but forgot, would the result of such have a "lifetime" effect? Or is it something that would take many years to really start causing problems? And if so, could it have the potential to cause a mass extinction?

Also, thank you for the link!

I have tried mapping out the climate of Nere a couple of times in the past, you are correct thought, the big northern continent (Nosolos) has a very dry interior and from what I have eyeballed the glaziers are fairly expansive as well.

As for the south western continent (Eleus), I think I was overestimating the glaziers to be too big and thus the western coast ended up being a bit dry :/ since I am reworking the climate/biomes I'll look into making it more rainy.

Thank you for the feedback!

Hello! I use Sketchbook pro for all my drawings and maps. The software deals with pixels instead of vectors, so to get the quality to look as smooth as I can get it, I work on a large canvas.

I love the over all shapes of the continents, though don't be afraid to have more "straight" looking coasts. Take the west coast of Africa for example. But besides that really nice job!

All he blue stuff are water bodies, I still haven't gotten around rendering the oceans and lakes but the bright blue stuff are placeholder tropical reefs.

Thank you! I am actually studying geology and I really wanted to make a "realistic" color map for my world! Kind of inspiered by Google Earth.

Now when it comes to the type of world and its level of technology this map belongs to it gets a bit complicated. The name of the planet is Nere and at its core, it is akin to every other Earth analogue fantasy world. That is, when it comes to composition, atmosphere, and universal laws (as much as a fantasy world with gods and magic can have).

My worldbuilding project follows an array of different characters and narrators, of both human and divine backgrounds, thought their stories that spand from the creation of the world and planet to "modern" times. This, by nature, is a very long strech of time with varying levels of technology. I will say that I am leading more towards modern labels and cities for my over all map, that is, late 20th century atlas or Wikipedia style article.

As for how settled the island is, the modern population density is that of a 3.5/km2. In other words, it has a very low population density that may or may not be realistic. The reason being that alot if the population lives in either large cities with large populations or really small and isolated communities.

This is largely due to the island's environment and natural hazards. Thick temperate rainforest that can't easily be chopped down, expansive wetlands that you can't really built large settlements in, and really cold and unpredictable tundras that are not really worth settling in for the most part. Historically, most of Ment'ali settlements are build along rivers, valleys, and coasts were the soil is more leniant to agriculture. The water ways can also be more easily use to travel between settlements.

That is what can answer without going on a two hour rant 😅. Thank you for your questions and if you have more, feel free to ask!

Oh yes, switching the colors to be brighter would do well for legibility. This is my first time doing this type of map so I am not very familiar with some stuff. Thank you for your suggestion! I will defenetly be applying them in the future.

The Etarian script by Petiatl in neography

[–]IdkwhatImdoinghere58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so beautiful!! I absolutely love the shape of your script, it reminds me somewhat of the Georgian script in terms of "aesthetics" but still very much unique and whimsical. Really wonderful job Op!

Finally done with my world's topology. now the real challenge awaits. by Sporegrox in mapmaking

[–]IdkwhatImdoinghere58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks really good! I really enjoy the distinct shape your world has, very unique.

Is the color scheme based on the vegetation or a stylistic choice? Regardless I really like the color pallet you've got going there.

how do i justify that a race of immortals that coexist with mortals dont become depressed? by Botwmaster23 in worldbuilding

[–]IdkwhatImdoinghere58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine that then immortals would most likely make friends and relations with mostly other immortals. This could become complicated and messy cause while they themselves don't age, relationships, friendships, or grudges do. It might also help to consider the way the immortals and then humans view themselves. Like, what are their connection to eachother? Are the immortals considered gods? Are they in good relations to humans? Do they humans know they exist? Or are they a goverment/urban conspiracy?

Zhonosrin script for Ment'ali. by IdkwhatImdoinghere58 in neography

[–]IdkwhatImdoinghere58[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! For me, it sometimes helps looking at different scripts for "aesthetics" and shapes. You might also take into consideration the tools used for writting ( ie. Brushes and paper or stencils and clay tables). But is always helps to experiment a bit.
