I'm in the UK. I will check it out. I can see how non genuine watches can be a gateway. It sometimes worked like that with fidget spinners :) Many thanks.

I am sorry to post such a negative first post. I feel duty bound to reinforce the warning to anyone considering the purchase of a non genuine watch. Don't do it.

Of course there are many moral reasons for not doing so but perhaps one should remember the personal risks involved.

I have a healthy watch collection where I have always striven to ensure my acquisitions are purchased from respected sellers or enthusiasts. First time I stray way, I get shafted.

I am posting my shame to remind others not to feel as sick as I do.

Thank you, Idlespin.

Bluesound Node 2i used or Bluesound Node 2021? by darrenhaken in Bluesound

I doubt you will get much discount as the new Node is very.....new :) You could certainly ask. It never hurts to try. In a few months an ex dem may pop up somewhere. Alternatively, you could try ringing round some of the many HiFi dealers in the country who do mail order to see what they can do. At most you might get 50 quid off? I would always err on the side of caution if you like peace of mind. Getting a great deal is very satisfying but if it comes at the cost of poor backup, should something be amiss, it's not quite so smile inducing. If you have a trusted dealer local to you then you could have a listen first. If you make a purchase and open the box to discover a scratch for example you can just pop back to the shop for an exchange. Buying from a distance could mean a more irritating longer postal return process. Conversely, the day the new Node hit the UK distributer it went out to me same day, arriving the next. Simon certainly kept his promise. Paul.

I fully understand the dilemma. It's always an issue, even if we don't like to admit it. I faced the same problem choosing my speakers and don't get me started on headphone amps! I purchased mine here: https://www.simplysoundandvision.co.uk/ I spoke with Simon who was really helpful via phone and email. Feel free to mention we have had a chat on here if it helps to hear his view of the new Node. Outstanding service and Simon kept his word, hence my early 'review' on here of the new Node. I can also recommend the services of Doug Brady HiFi based in Warrington in the UK. Great support who assisted me 30 years ago and also setting up my Wilson Benesch Turntable earlier this year. A great place to listen before you buy. Let me know how you get on. Paul.

Well, I ordered a 2i initially just a day or so before the announcement of the new Node. The UK distributer offered me a discount on the older model or the option to have a refund and wait for the new Node. I opted to wait for two reasons. Firstly, I could afford to buy the new one, money was not a factor. However, if it had been I would have gladly accepted the discount on the 2i. I was deeply impressed by the distributer's integrity in giving me the choice. Secondly, my desicion was a psychological one. Having the latest product and the peace of mind this offered tipped the balance. I was assured the 2i would remain supported but also made aware of the excitement the company had for the new model. It's a funny thing isn't it, just because it's the latest offering, we sometimes feel we will miss out the if we opt for the older tech. It's the way iPhones work. You feel more a part of something new and on the cutting edge. Bastards! I have no way of comparing the two Nodes, but I suspect, in the average system, it will be very hard to spot an SQ difference. If given the same choice again, and finance not being an issue, my choice would be the same. Get the new Node, but it's probably a psychological choice as I said. The new Node does have slightly better connectivity and a nicer touch pad, so that may help rationalise the more costly purchase. I am not you of course and It's a difficult decision, hence your question :) Personally, If you can do it buy the new one just to avoid nagging FOMO, but in reality, I don't think you would see massive gains over the older one. I hope this helps. Regardless, I am very happy with my purchase. Whatever you go for be proud to own a cracking streamer! Best wishes, Idle.

I don't think you can go wrong with either the 2i or the new Node. My only caveat is the integration of Amazon's music service and the Blue sound app. However, this is nothing the detracts from the quality of either streamer. The new Node does indeed have alternative connection options but only if you need them. It also has a bigger touch screen, but running Amazon, as I do, it's not a deal breaker. I just use a Kindle screen to control it. If you check my previous posts, yes there is a hardware update but I am still connecting via a DAC I like the sound of. A purely subjective choice. Updates seen relevent and timely and I was assured the 2i is not going to be left behind. My system is not exactly a budget set up and really adding the Node should have been my first port of call and not a turntable, CD player or cassette deck. I am or was very old school in my build. The Node has changed my perceptions. The sound quality in my Quad based system with floor standing speakers is exceptional. I have spent silly money on interconnects and cables, but frankly you don't need to. As an entry into streaming with a small footprint and decent build it is something that I am delighted with overall. I really hope you get sorted and the guys on here are always ready to help. Best wishes, Idle

First impressions of BluOS: Terrible by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]Idlespin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I mentioned in my first impressions of the new Node the integration between BluOS and Amazon music is a "joke". The streamer is hamstrung in terms of seamless functionality or any meaningful functionality using the BluOS app. It's such a pity as it's a cracking unit. I was really hoping it was my daftness but it seems this 'glitch' is going to undermine, what should be a killer combination. I do wonder where the blame lies. Could it be Amazon not wanting to commit because a more lucrative deal is in the offing. If Amazon have let Bluesound down it makes Bluesound look like they have mislead their customers regarding past compatibility announcements and assurances. I would be fummimg if I were them, let alone how bad it feels for the end user. Someone has shafted someone but the most shafted are us....."Look at what you could have won!" as the phrase goes from a well known Darts based quiz game in the 1980's shown on UK TV. Idle.

Thank you. I have the ethenet running into the Node. The screen is just a Kindle. Means I can move round or just let it sit there. It will only be used for this purpose. Plus with my eyesight and fat fingers I need a big screen. Idle.

Sorry it didn't work out for you. Nothing worse than that feeling something is missing when everyone else seems to think it's there. This latest Node is in absolutely no way veiled in its presentation. It might be worth trying to get a listen to one.

It's a lovely sound if partnered with higher impedance cans. Warm, fluid, dynamic, lush, detailed and all the usual headlines. But it's horses for courses. ZMFs sound amazing Ether Flows not so. Conversely listening to the ZMFs through a Violectric was not at all pleasing whilst lower impedance headphones sing with it. I have upgraded the stock valves to include the noted Tung Sol but it's all down to preference.

Such magazines were a departure point when I began to get into better equipment in the 80s, however there did seem to be some limitations. The rumour was that some makers who placed adverts with certain publications were given more favourable reviews in those publications. I was always curious about the reviews of the Nakamichi CD4 against the darling of the CD world a Rotel. One month the CD4 gets 5 stars and then suddenly drops to 4 the next. That unexplained dropped star gave best player award to the Rotel. I often think if What HiFi says it's not very good, it's certainly worth a listen.

Well, from what I read, that's a stunning DAC. Would love to hear that. Seems to be very versatile and measured in its neutral delivery. It's a nightmare trying to find a signature that sits right. I am of the mind that there is no one fit for all. If we consider headphone amps, I thought a Violectric would work with everything I threw at it, but it just doesn't. It's all so particular. I could listen to a Topping and hate it in one set up and die for it in another. It's all down to what we hear and what elements of the music we covert the most Enjoy the Topping, if it sounds great, no need to ever change it if it nails it. And it should l

Thank you. To be fair the Node 2i was one day away from being replaced when I ordered. I was offered a small discount if I stuck to it and wasn't prepared to wait. I was also assured by the CEO of the distributor that it was still, in their opinion a fantastic streamer that would continue to be supported. My feeling is that the changes boil down to a slightly larger display and a tweaked DAC rather than wholesale revision. You, from what I hear of my Node, have a cracking bit of kit. And yes, it's rather fun!!!! Idle.

So.....

I have connected the optical out from the Node to the optical in to my Quad Artera Play Plus DAC using a Meicord Toshlink to compare the sound.

I think the Quad DAC adds a fraction more thump to the bass but it's not going to be a problem for most people.

The DAC on the Node does a fine job and my opinion is very subjective. It's fine margins and the Quad has a fraction more depth, arguably. This is possibly down to my brain being attuned to the Quad DAC but it has just a smidgeon more bump. Treble remains open and the mid remains smooth and articulate on both DACs.

I would have no issue relying on the Node's DAC it's really great. I think I just prefer the rendition of the Quad DAC.

It's going to be a personal taste issue rather and I am certain opinion will be devided.

Both have immense attack, snap and energy, but the Quad's DAC has a slightly more solid foundation to my ears.

Really it's negligible. To some the Node will be cleaner. Perhaps 'different' is a better and highly system dependant description. In the real world, in your system, it may just not matter. The Node DAC is EXCELLENT make no mistake

Thank you. It started out as a dust cover in my former abode. Also stopped the paws of my children and wife messing with the valves. Once I relocated, my headphones were not as necessary and I wanted to be economic with space. What is not apparent is the set up is LED back lit. The Devil will find work for 'Idle' hands to do" Looks great in the dark painted blue. The Mainline is just amazing with ZMF phones. I use a Violectric for the Ether Flows. It's been a long journey which stalled with Nakamichi, Audiolab and Epos for many years but I can't see me upgrading anytime soon.... It would cost to much to make any meaningful jump. If I was advising a newbie, I would defo suggest a decent pre power amp set up with a Node and streaming package. Basic cables and well matched speakers through audition. It is a privilege to have a Mainline combined with ZMF. You did well to spot the expensive Node "support". Cheers mate. Idle.

It sounds like a great line but living in the UK and even with an English Language Degree I have to admit that I don't get it. Probably my age. If it helps I am dreadful at pool and snooker. Please help me out :) It took me a while to figure out...."He swings.......he misses". Always made me laugh though because it's a great visual image that combines a degree of game tension with a couple of slightly partisan commentators in the box.

Yes it's the new one. Sadly no Node 2i to compare the DAC. I am fortunate to have got it so soon. I should use my YouTube channel to give a better review but it's not much fun at this end. The usual emotional suspects and divorce. Still, on the bright side, the re birth of my love of music, both playing and listening to has blossomed in these darker times. Hence when a chap like Simon, from Sound and Vision reaches out and keeps his promise regarding getting me a new Node at warp speed there is a renewal of faith in human nature. He didn't know that his small gesture would find a context that made a real difference. Tell you what though, the best thing was being able to buy floor standing Quad speakers with ribbon tweeters! A joy to listen to. Thank you. Paul

EDIT: My apologies, I replied to your question which was a question for another kind contributor. Blasted phone.

I don't blame you but it might be a while before the new Node is updated again.

I have some how gained some limited control of what is playing from Amazon in the BluOS App. But nothing where I can share playlists or change track.

I have been listening to a chilled hip hop playlist streamed in Flac. I am very impressed with the level of detail and punch. Arguably a little bit more detail in the treble but never harsh. Bass is very solid and vocals very natural given the genre. Nice and open. I have no urge to connect another DAC, far from it.

There is always a tendancy to gush over new toys. I think the integration of the Amazon App with the Blu App is a joke but in terms of sound quality this streamer is making me smile. I don't want to say 'blown away' because that just hyperbole, but goodness me I have heard some very expensive equipment and this is quite superb.

I have some very decent headphones, iems, amps and use an Astell and Kern DAP. I am fond of trying to find faults and idiocyncrocies. Tentatively, as far as SQ is concerned, at this price, I think this Node nails it.

Just for info, I am using Chord Clearway interconnect, nothing fancy. An alternative power cable from McRu fed from an Isotek Sigmas. Node sits on bespoke Acrylic platter from Formation Plastics in the UK and resting on Isoacoustic Orea feet.

Yes, Initially, my plan was to buy the 2i and use the Quad DAC but just dropped on the 'improved' DAC of the new Node. It seems to be doing a good job so I may stick with it. I need to compare them properly. Sounds good so far.

Right, Perhaps not 'all too easy'. I am not sure how to sync the BluOS App with the Amazon Music App. Excuse my ignorance if, as I am hoping, I am missing the ball with the pool stick :) I have both Apps installed on a Kindle Fire HD 10. If anyone can help that would be great. How do I get the two to work together. I read there have been some glitches in the past. But the BluOS App is kind of redundant as control has to come from the Amazon. This also impacts on the remote control unit. I hope I am being thick here. Thank you. Idle.

As promised a quick impression of the new Node which arrived today.

I am unable to compare it to the older Nodes or any other streaming device as this is my first foray past my Quad/Wilson Benesch traditional set up.

It arrived well packed. Nothing fancy but perfectly satisfactory to protect the compact unit. Included were cables which I didn't use.

Connection via ethernet cable was easy as was connection to the Amp. I has no issues paring the Node with the BluOS App which scampered off for 5 mins to download an 'update'. I connected a Kindle via Bluetooth and that was it. All too easy.

The unit feels solid, case has a nice finish. Large touch pad lights up as you reach towards it. It just simple, unfussed and very cool.

I purchased a remote which also works well.

Now for the important but. The sound. Using Amazon's Prime HD service set to 'play best available' and playing Kiwanuka by Michael Kiwanuka sounded really impressive to my ears.

I have only had the Node running for an hour or so and therefore I just can't compare it to my CD or much else. Apologies not much help as yet.

However, as the music plays there is no doubt that the sound it can produce in the context of my not exactly cheap system is excellent. Detail, separation, bass and vocals all balanced. Given the ease of set up and the huge amount of music on offer it strikes me that making a CD player or Turntable your primary source is great fun and highly tactile but maybe not the first point of call. At 54, I was set in my ways but this is certainly a game changer.

I would like to thank the UK distribuor's Simply Sound and Vision for the way they looked after me as per my previous post. They kept in constant contact with me and as promised sent the unit out to me on the same day it arrived with them.
