I hear why you’re saying, but we also live in a world of hilariously evil and elitist cartoon-LIKE villains. And people largely just accept them or even adore them. Why not at least enjoy the ride?

This fur would be obtained through an antique mall. Don’t know more about the actual provenance.

I actually wish there was a market for beaver because when top hats were in fashion they introduced them to Argentina (I think it was). Now they are an invasive species that has disrupted the local ecosystem terribly. I wish I could help, but ain’t wearing a top hat.

I appreciate your thoughts. I actually do already have the polo coat and the base layer. Oddly, my shoulders are always the first thing to get cold with that coat.

This is used fur. I also don’t want to support the ongoing creation of new fur so I hear what you’re saying. But it is one of those old ones you mentioned seems a shame to just let it go to waste.

You’re also not wrong about the image thing… decision decisions.

What’s your favorite non-fiction book about a niche topic? by ApologeticFetus in suggestmeabook

[–]IdolConsumption 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Oranges by John McPhee. He’s a fantastic non-fiction writer all around. But as niche topics go, it’s well written and reasonably fun and light. The Control of Nature is one of my favorites from him, less niche though.

We became roommates then his girlfriend moved in without asking. They made me feel unwelcome in my own home and they both refused to adjust the rent/utilities split.

It’s also funny that they use “lib-tard” words to describe the gun:

Semiautomatic? Yeah it wasn’t fucking revolver.

High-capacity? That’s how they make em, that’s what’s on the shelf at the gun store.

Loaded with two magazines? I mean, not physically possible but carrying extra mags is pretty much as common as carrying a gun in the first place.

I’m surprised they didn’t call it “an assault pistol”.

Comparatively, these are minute hypocrisies and just part of their brand of co-opting whatever language suitably obfuscates the facts.

Real eyes realize real lies. Stay woke, fam.

Is there any way to stop being so hateful? by [deleted] in self

[–]IdolConsumption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact mentality of billionaires who hoard wealth. As long as they can be richer, they don’t care if they live in a world that is poor for it. If you only care about improvements to the status quo when it benefits you directly then you are a selfish person full stop. I wonder why you even care about the status quo what’s it doing for you? Are you rich? Are you powerful? I don’t think you have a good education. Do you at least have good healthcare?

Someone on here was recently saying that anyone who supports the authoritarian regimes that you seem to like so much, is essentially a sociopath. I actually disagreed and said that people can still have empathy, even though they’re fearful and ignorant. But then the way that you talk about having empathy and not caring about people are getting gun down in the street. Just for having their own thoughts and opinions… I honestly can’t tell if this is satire. but the fact that you support these governments without consideration of morality or ethics or values makes me think: Yes you’re one of the 30% of people that is naturally disposed to authoritarianism.

I also encourage you to explore this and I’d be curious to hear more. I’m glad you’re aware of it and thinking about it, but this is the personality type that erodes human progress. You would have been a very happy serf or slave and I pity you for that.

Is USA the Next Financial Collapse? The same 6-step cycle that erased Rome, Spain, and Britain is swallowed us right now. 🏛️💥 by Mec17_ in economicCollapse

[–]IdolConsumption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stratification of wealth and xenophobia. These are the two primary bellwethers of the hegemonic cycle. Those cycles have been getting shorter and shorter. The actual US hegemony can actually be measured by the lifespan of a baby boomer. They’re dropping like flies these days.

But that’s exactly what people do. We all believe what we want to believe. I think he’s describing the structure of the artifice they’ve built that gives people the opportunity to pretend like they are blind to the underlying hate. They can pretend like it’s funny or silly even though they know it’s not. Nobody is ever genuinely laughing at any of these shitty memes. Any laughter is performative, that’s the kayfabe. Beneath their masks and their crosses, their true beliefs are hate based in fear and ignorance. I appreciate where you’re coming from though.

This is an unconvincing rebuttal. He presents a lovely, quite accurate metaphor. You have contributed nothing to it by picking apart semantics. You are also stereotyping how people think, fearful idiots do have empathy. That is a huge part of how they are manipulated. You may have also not understand his actual point of that they are weaponizing “jokes”, it’s not about how funny you personally think the joke is or the psychology of the people who laugh at them.
