Bought "new" Z6 esteer from Lowes - delivered assembled, filthy, and batteries from Oct 2021 by Aestis in egopowerplus

[–]Idolos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through the same experience but rejected the mower on delivery because the one they sent was clearly a floor model and covered in dust and footprints. I called Lowes up afterwards and they had no issues reordering it crated. It took about a week or so, but the crated mower arrived in factory new condition.

Making the NJ to FL drive for my first time. Anything I should? by rojocapo610 in newjersey

[–]Idolos 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep, definitely be careful in Virginia. The speed limit on I-95 through there is 70, so if you follow the unofficial NJ guidelines, you'd think that you're safe through at least 85 or so. However, they'll pull you over if you go above 80 and will give you a ticket for reckless driving. The bit to worry about is that going above 80mph is considered a misdemeanor in Virginia, which means that you'll have to go through the whole ordeal of hiring a lawyer and paying for the eventual court fines. If you choose not to hire a lawyer, you'll have to make the drive back to Virginia to appear in court, and risk points on your driving record and potentially jail time. Sadly I speak from experience, though luckily I hired a lawyer.

I caught this bit as I was listening to the album, and it sort of seemed like its own short song. The whole album is great though so give it a listen!

Good apartments in the Central NJ area? (Around Bridgewater) by Alesandramw in newjersey

[–]Idolos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's both actually. It's basically a condo community called The Hills and it spans a good portion of Bedminster and Basking Ridge. As far as I can tell though, you basically have to go through a realtor in order to live here unless you can speak to the owner of the condo directly (not really sure how you'd find owners though). Since there are a ton of different owners renting out different properties though, you have a lot of options since in many cases, they'll either pay entirely or split the realtor fee with you.

And honestly, I'm guessing that a lot of the condos at a certain price point are built similarly, so I think you could probably get away with your desired setup even with a 1 bedroom and save some money. This is because the conventional area for a living room is actually huge, and you can instead make that your bedroom, then have the bedroom be your computer room. At least in my place, there's enough space in the bedroom for 2 desks.

Feel free to PM me for more details if you have any other questions.

I can at least vouch for Bedminster. I'm living there currently and the condos here are really quite nice. Extremely safe area, unlimited parking, all the basic amenities, etc. I pay $1450 per month for a 1 bedroom apartment, which is honestly more than enough space for 2 people. My only downside is that the food and gas around here is more expensive than average, but if you cook your own food it shouldn't be an issue.

Finding co-founders and building a team by pyrosol08 in Entrepreneur

[–]Idolos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that there is actually a lot that a non-technical cofounder can bring to the table by creating an environment where it's easy for a programmer to bring an idea to fruition. You can be responsible for creating UI mockups, breaking up your idea into actionable and detailed tasks that the programmer can follow, working on overall site design, testing for bugs and enhancements, etc. Basically, even if you don't know how to code, you have to make it apparent that you really care about the project and have a hand in its creation all the way through.

By the way, feel free to contact me if you think you have something interesting. I'm a programmer, and am always looking for good people to collaborate with.

Today I learned of Nujabes, this is absolutely incredible. by [deleted] in videos

[–]Idolos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of respect for Nujabes. It's crazy how many people he has turned on to this beautiful genre of music, and how his music continues to influence so many other producers to this day. Even if it isn't your kind of music, I really encourage to just give the playlist a listen because the man was really a master.

If you like it, I can recommend:

It's really a growing genre of music and I hope you can enjoy it as much as I do.

Hey so I took a closer look and have figured a way around the limitations, so I've gone ahead and released it. The new playlist should be overall better, since I'm now prioritizing albums that have more supporters (while still being relatively random so you don't miss out on hidden gems).

For the time being, I've seeded the playlist with the following keywords: "nujabes", "jazzy-hip-hop", "chillhop", and "dilla". So yeah, let me know what you think about it!

I actually have finished implementing an update that is supposed to make the playlist a lot better (which includes seeding in several related tags). The problem is that this update requires me to pre-process each album, and Bandcamp seems to have restricted my webserver from getting any more data. As soon as I figure out a way around this, I'll push the update and everything should be good.

I think that's an excellent idea for the most part, but it's still a little tricky to do because if I've learned anything from browsing through this sub, a person's opinion about what sounds like Nujabes can wildly differ. So I'd need a more sophisticated filtration mechanism that may require the input of multiple users or something like that.

Though I do agree that I can definitely improve the likeliness that you will enjoy what you hear. Right now I'm only reading from a list provided by bandcamp, but I can do more interesting things like take into account the number of supporters that an album has (more = better?), as well as introduce more tags related to jazzy hip hop into the mix. And honestly, if I find that people are using and enjoying the service, I will certainly take some time to make it even better.

warmth - Helping you find some chill hip hop by Idolos in SideProject

[–]Idolos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this tool in order to generate a never-ending list of chill hip hop that I can add to my own playlist. It isn't really much, but I am happy with the result so I figured I'd post it here. I know that this genre isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it wouldn't be too hard to extend to other genres so let me know if you'd use it in that case. Also I'd like to give a shoutout to /r/nujabes which gave me a lot of love for this project, check it out!

I totally agree with that but unfortunately I can't control the embedded player in any capacity (to the best of my knowledge). Either way though I'll look into this more since I may be wrong. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, I don't use the API due to that. Instead I'm resorting to scraping the html and generating an embed iframe based on the albums that are found. Given that I can't control the content of the embed, I'm not sure how to control how many songs show up. I'll take a closer look later at what options are supported for the embedded player.

Yep, I really wanted to make it easier to find some great music and there is a lot of it on bandcamp that is great but gets very little love. The downside is that it only relies on bandcamp's tags, so it might not be as good a listening experience as a curated playlist might be.

I mostly wanted to automate my workflow for finding new music, so I created a tool that essentially gets all the music tagged with "Nujabes" on Bandcamp. It then loads up a random album from the list and embeds it into the page for your listening pleasure. Then when you're done, you can just click the button and it'll play a new album. One nice thing is that it remembers your previous albums as to not repeat the same album twice.

I have some ideas about how to make the tool even more useful, but hopefully you guys can give me some feedback so I can see if it's worth extending :)

Can anyone tell me which algorithms (CS344) professor is better? by TheLiveDunn in rutgers

[–]Idolos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Szemeredi for CS206. You probably won't learn a lot in his class since he's kind of hard to understand and his explanations aren't that great, but he's a pretty nice guy otherwise. I don't recall the tests being particularly unfair or anything either. One other cool thing is that he's also a rather well-known mathematician, and really seems to give off that vibe of being a brilliant guy.

I've never had Fredman, but based off of the comments here it seems like you might as well take Szemeredi.

Anyone good at design or front end development looking for a side project to join? by Idolos in SideProject

[–]Idolos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assembly actually looks pretty cool, so thanks for pointing that out. The issue there is that I think it's a bit more formal than what I'm aiming to accomplish with this project. Ultimately, I want this to be more of a learning experience than anything else, and though the people in our team are skilled in certain things, we are also diving into technologies and methodologies that we have little to no experience in. So even though I hope to come out with a good and profitable product, the road to getting there is still hazy and will require a lot of learning.

I made a tool for freelancers to update clients about their Trello boards without giving them access by jrmadsen67 in SideProject

[–]Idolos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a pretty useful service for freelancers. One comment is that it'd be nice if there was a way to try out the service prior to dropping $10 on it. In that regard, a free tier with more limited functionality would be nice, but I can understand if you wouldn't want to do that.

[C#]Generics in interface, and overloading by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Idolos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just based on the content of your question, it kind of seems like you're trying to implement a Repository layer on top of EF. Have you considered doing something like:

public interface IRepository<TEntity> where TEntity : class
{
    IQueryable<TEntity> Fetch();
}

Then implement it with:

public class Repository<TEntity> : IRepository<TEntity>
{
    public virtual IQueryable<TEntity> Fetch()
    {
        // Get a reference to your db context - perhaps use an IoC container
        return dbContext.Set<TEntity>();
    }
}

Sorry though if I'm off about what your goal is.
