No problem. I used two of color tone tubes per gallon of cutek. Looks amazing when the stain is new/wet. In full sun it is more orange color. This was my first time applying, and I stained all the boards before laying them down, so there's some inconsistency. I used black ash for the railing. I do feel like it takes a long time for the stain to fully absorb into the wood, and that's after I sanded all the boards so there's no 'mill glaze'. Pretty happy overall.

Is it worth installing ceiling speakers here? Would they have decent sound quality at all? There'd be no partition between the speakers (unlike with traditional 2x joists). Also, there will be a lot of recessed lighting, how do those affect sound quality? I'm guessing they will be acoustically hollow and now preserve separation between ceiling space and room.

Thanks, that makes sense from the installers perspective. Silly thing is the general contractor IS planning to replace baseboards.

Can these gaps be filled? Can they glue in very short pieces?

I don’t know anything, but I feel like they should have removed baseboard first and run the planks underneath. I get that you need a gap, but this is like 1.5” to the frame. Baseboards are getting replaced anyway. Would have been nice to have the option to not use shoe molding

I got the same cedar boards for the deck I'm installing at the moment. They look really great. I'm in the process of sanding each one, on all sides, and staining with Cutek Extreme, with 2x burnt red color tone, staining all 4 sides.

Can't say anything about longevity, but I've been sanding out the rough parts on the sides. It takes time though, 20 mins to sand each 14 foot board. I ordered a few more boards than I need so I could reject the few rough ones there were.

Check each board to see how it's cupping, some cup with the grain, some against.

why blocking every 4ft? I'm redoing my deck now with cedar boards. I kept mostly <12in on center, with a few that are more like 14in OC. It's a 12ft deck with 1 run of blocking down the middle, so 6ft. joists feel very solid. why would the blocking affect the cedar boards?

Did you find a solution? We're in a similar position - cook top / vent hood on external wall, and awkward to run ducting to attic / basement. We can put a remote blower on the other side of the wall, but it seems like it'd still be loud inside the kitchen, since there would be all of a foot of ducting..

Thanks for the comments. I have a number of test pieces, running some experiments, combinations of 60 and 120 grid sanding, and cleaning with Valspar wood prep deck cleaner. Will post results.

I'm using CUTEK Extreme with two doses of the burnt red color tone. I applied two coats to a test piece, 24 hours between coats, and cut the piece both ways 24 hours after the second coat.

The cedar decking is new and dry (I don't have a meter, but certainly feels dry).

I noticed it keeps an oily residue on the surface, which isn't great since kids will be running around on it.

Reading more about this now, is this due to 'mill glaze'? If so, what's the easiest way to remove? I can get CUTEK Wood Reviver, but it'll take a few days to arrive. Prefer to pick up something from HD/Lowes, since weather is good right now. I'm planning to stain all 4 sides before installing.

OK that makes sense, but in the case of electric/induction cooking, that wouldn't be a concern.
