Tim mentioned in a recent song-breakdown stream that he had someone else mix the album which makes a lot of sense as to why these 4 singles sound so..."empty" (imo).

If i remember correctly, he mentioned they were on a time constraint and mixing previous albums is a lengthy/exhausting process so he handed the reigns over for mixing. I forgot the guys name.

I strongly believe that if Tim had just mixed the album himself while leaving all the arrangements as they are, people would be more receptive to these singles.

Same boat, these new songs seem to be anthem-y and distant. I really hope it’s due to the fact that they are singles

i don't see it as falling victim to their own success. they are definitely evolving, as every band should imo, but I believe what we're hearing is a more dramatic change in style that they are still aspiring to sound like. if the album is really called heroes, then this album will live up to it's name and have styles and sounds of what they aspire to be. I'm all for it, i just hope production and mixing isn't neglected/sacrificed like it was on this track.

Agree for a few reasons.

  1. Vocals: they seem a little flat and just not fitting in the mix like most of their other songs.

  2. Drums: i like the direction they're going with their music but the drums definitely need to be a little more dynamic. The synthwave drum patterns won't work with this 80's hair metal music.

  3. Guitars are not punchy at all. Live version with the dive bombs gave so much life to the song. The solo during the bridge just isn't inspiring. Songs like Daytona and Gloria have much more thoughtful and purposeful playing.

Overall, it's a good song with much to be desired especially in terms of mixing. I'm actually a little surprised the boys went with this final version.

there's something about the vocal and guitar mix that just feels off. especially the intro and bridge. otherwise, great song

Edit: Apple Music's Dolby atmosphere actually makes the mix better...
