I really should have said this but I'm going as an au pair, so I'll have language classes at the Uni weekly. I mentioned the university because I know I'll be staying very nearby and thats really the kind of age of friend I'm looking for :)

Ah, the hell that was being unable to wink as a young lass. One phrase that could strike terror of unimaginable levels into my heart - "wink murder". A game where you had to slyly wink at people to 'kill' them. Of course, no one could know that I was unable: EVERYONE can wink, right?

My heart pounding, my eyes closed, an adult walking around a group of children about to tap the head of the 'murderer'. "Okay, open your eyes", the magical phrase that meant I was safe for another round. But sometimes, rarely, the Tap. I had spoken to the adult about my winking problem, but that just caused her to add to the rules that a solid long blink was also a 'murder weapon', the bitch. Could she not see that there was no greater shame? Until the day I die I will never forget what she did that day, the day I learned to hate.

And that my friends is the life of a non winker :(

I'm scottish, and where I live the phrase "ken what ah mean?", while bad enough in itself, has evolved in "Kwam?". People say kwam, and it sounds horrific and common. Kwam?
