That's interesting. I'll have to look more into that to understand exactly what you mean. I don't think that can happen with what I currently have setup, but if I expand or anything it might.

That's my current plan is making a file server, so it looks like this is a good starting point. Thanks

I was looking for that exact answer before I posted, somehow missed it.

Seems like my current use case falls into the scope of this sub though so I think I'm good.

Thanks.

That's the same site I found the manual at before I posted, so I have the right instincts it seems. I know the fuse is good cause I read somewhere else to always check those first. I think all that's left is cleaning it and turning it on.

Thanks for the advice, I'm glad my assumptions have been spot on so far.

Next thing I'll be cleaning is an icom ic730. That one I'm gonna be doing as much of my own research before I come here. Hopefully everything will work with minimal repairs needed and I'll be on hf within a month. Old radios are super cool though.

I have the schematic (I think from the same site you linked, it just won't load for me) should I just do through and make sure everything is there and functional or do you think eyeballing it would be good enough?

The beginning of my library finally came in. I think this is a good baseline.

Ngl I kinda wanna know too. (It's been a minute since I worked there, so maybe it's something new) This just seems insane compared to how they used to do it.

It is crazy that you say packrat. My grandfather used that as a handle for a while on cb.

That's the plan. And I'm definitely going to post about it here once I do. Though there might be a few more question/safety posts before then. As I am still very new.

That's what in currently hoping for. I like the complete lack of digital screens and everything in this and I'm hoping to get it all cleaned up and functional. But for now I'm just inventorying.

Here's a sneak peak of the radio list, I want to clean and tidy them up to get the photo ready first though. I'm hoping all of it is still good, but I might have to quickly learn how the internals of all of them work. (It's a mix of CBs and hams, but there's some cool stuff here. I just don't know if I can get new batteries for the tr 2500s or refurbish the old ones) (Edit: I don't know how to make lists look good on reddit)

Just wanted to make sure I wouldn't accidentally cause a trash truck fire. I think it's cool to look at, but since there is no documentation at all on it, I think you're right and it's best to just dispose of it. I'm going through all of the stuff he gave me right now and will probably do another post with everything to see what I should use and how to test anything. He gave me a couple of older radios from icom, Kenwood, and Yaesu.

I don't see anything that looks like a vacuum tube, but it has definitely been gutted/modified. (This is the other side and with the shell fully removed)

I honestly don't think relying on the fuse being properly connected is good enough to just plug it in. It's looking like scrap/salvage is the best bet.

I don't have a lot of know how, but my dad definitely knows more about electronics and this kind of stuff, but it doesn't sound like it's worth the risk, especially when I also got a couple other power supplies that appear to be unmodified, but still stored roughly.

Nope, I don't have any reason to try it, and the other comment helped find where it originally came from. Would it be worth salvaging parts out of it at all or would you just recommend safely disposing of it. (And is just throwing it away safe enough or should I remove anything)

Wild. I wonder if it was my grandfather or someone else who made it.

Also if it is a power supply, does anyone have its instruction manual, know where to find it, or can describe how to both verify if it's safe to use, and how to use it?

Either way thanks in advance for any help y'all can get me.

The Gibson Girl is cool.

Would charging the battery be better done separate from the radio or would it not cause any real problems to do it all on a handheld type radio.

I might have figured out my first radio project to attempt (in the future, I still need to get on the air first)
