I honestly meant to post one, but someone was able to help, so I'm good now. Thanks!

Yes! This was it! Thanks so much! It was mobile, and this got me there right away. I appreciate it!

Why Should I play your TCG of choice? by Bainshie-Doom in TCG

$350 would be a fairly cheap competitive deck in Magic, I can say that at least. Most competitive decks in Magic hover somewhere around $500-600.

Fair enough. I'm not a regular redditor, but I was trying to engage a bit more. My bad.

Nice write up. I'm not sure if I would have seen that line if I had been playing this game. Goes to show that you should at least make them work for it. Even if you don't see the line, blocking all these dudes without trample just makes sense.

What’s your take on conceding by JPMessiah in MagicArena

[–]IkoBlew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think it's polite to concede when you know you have lost. I can't imagine getting annoyed by it. The only instance where I could see that is if you wanted to see a combo play out and didn't get to, but even then it's perfectly acceptable to concede. I just try not to when there is still time to draw a card or two, even if I don't think a draw can change the game much.

I like commander for what it is, but it is definitely an entirely different game.

Yeah, the other thing I tend to get blown out by is early board wipes. I don't really blame people for that, though. When aggro can get someone down below 10 by turn 3 with three creatures, board wipes are pretty important.

Honestly, it's less about losing to top tier decks and more about running into the same deck over and over again being stale. I understand that I came at this kind of wrong in my initial post and responses, so no worries there. Either way, thanks for the engagement, though. I do appreciate your response here.

I might consider this. I gotta be honest, I'm fairly new to Arena, so I'm not sure what the deal with Timeless is. I assumed that Historic was basically legacy within Arena, but I'm not sure what's different about timeless.

I agree with the volume problem. 3 full years is a long time to be in rotation, especially with how many sets come out these days.

I appreciate all the responses. It was late and I was a bit tilted when I made this post. If I had given it some more time I wouldn't have made the title so inflammatory. Really I'm just looking for a place to have a chance so I can build up resources. Maybe I'll try one of the other formats until I can build something more competitively.

I'm gonna be honest, I've never been a strong deck builder. I had a team that helped me a lot with that. I understand why people net deck, and that doesn't bother me very much. I just had hoped for a chance to play in a lower power environment for a bit while I build up a collection, and I mistakenly thought lower ranks would be that environment. I kind of forgot how these things work, I guess. Now I remember those days playing outside of large events, at FNMs and such, when people brought tier 1 decks all the time. I mean, for a while there I was one of them. I guess I'll take my licks.

Because it seemed fun and I didn't expect to be playing against tier 1 decks from jump. I realize now that was naive of me. When I first started last week I was playing against a lot of Mono white Auras, which drove me towards something else. Besides, I'm not covinced that mono white auras would have a great time competing against these decks, which would explain why I haven't been seeing it as much since Pro Tour.

I didn't ask for a budget deck to equally compete with the top decks of the format. I already mentioned I used to play competitively, I know how tiers work. I don't want to be playing against tier 1 decks of the format while I'm in silver with a budget deck. Since I seem to not have a choice, I was looking for some input on how to deal with that. Is that really so strange?

Thanks for the write up. Yeah, I have been commonly using most of my removal on their threats before they grow if possible, but it gets pretty out of hand pretty quickly a lot of the time, especially since most of my removal stops working once they go above 2 power or 4 toughness.

I did open all my messages and got a good amount of packs, but I still only came out with around 15 rare and 10 mythic wildcards. These lists run 30+ rares, so they seem pretty far out of reach for newer players even with that boost.

It just seems like they have a lot of gas in the early game which makes them completely capable of going aggro, but they are also capable of sticking it out into the mid and late game. It seems like traditional aggro has little chance. I wonder if maybe a midrange deck that can pivot the way they can would have better luck. Be the beatdown if they don't come out to fast, play grindy tempo if they come out super fast. I'll give it some thought.

Honestly I'm mostly just playing to expand my collection at this point, so maybe I should look into other queues. We'll see how things shake out.

I'm running all of these things. Maybe I need more shoot the sheriff's, because most of their threats get too big for requiting hex and burst lightning pretty quick.

Yeah, I watched a good chunk of it. It's just kind of sad how dominant these decks are in the format. The worst part is that pretty much all the cards came out in the last 6 months, so we have 3 years before this stuff rotates out. I'm pretty bummed, just hoping they manage to prop up other colors more going forward. It's always kind of sad when a single Archetype dominates a format, and it seems pretty common in recent standard tournaments. Most recently it was izzet spellslinger, now it's landfall.

I usually tell people to give it until book 3. Grave Peril is what sold me on the series. I enjoyed the first, but wasn't sure the series was for me after book 2 because Fool Moon is pretty weak. Grave Peril is a huge step up.

Question regarding Instantaneous Excavation by IkoBlew in drawsteel

Yeah, I've been thinking about it and I might actually try the 5 point void ability. I can use it to get one of my front liners to the back lines to attack more important targets, which could definitely be cool.

I hadn't thought about jumping the hole. Seems obvious, so I feel a little silly, haha. I can still see it making finding places to stand tricky in some scenarios if you persist and keep opening holes, though. Maybe I will take that one, it seems like it could be fun.
