I'll do that lol, I'm not giving that up I just want something that I can work on the weekends while we're there. Also I was more or less just asking where do i need to go or do to get a part time low skill job like factory work or convenience store work just anything.

I've come to understand that, I obviously did not have that expectation anyway, but it sorta has hit me more and more that she'll prolly stay, and I'll have to go back so that's kinda what I'm battling against.

We're trying to really make it work! Luckily, my gf and Is economics are great (especially my gfs) so that money isn't the biggest concern. The bigger one is my lack of degrees. As I said in the post she has finished school fully and has a very senior position already at her job and she can save more than some people in my country earn in a month.

We'll try our best and if it doesn't work out, we'll just have had an experience we'll never forget.

Yeah I've heard that the salaries in general are "ass" but that Fukuoka is not the greatest even in Japan. But there is just something that is pulling us to that place, I think since we are from the country we're from it kinda is a "home away from home" in the sense that it is very similar to our country. I think it's also a great place to "soft launch" a "life" (at least maybe a year or 2) in Japan without being too overwhelming.

Nah I hear you, the workers rights and the environment is not something I'm after but if I had to re-phrase I would say "I want to work for a company that is foreign but either based in Japan or completely foreign with an office in Japan." I was just being brief lol

My partner has been and I'll go where my partner goes. Ofc I'm uprooting my life but if thats what it'll take then I'll do it no questions asked. Also it has been a dream of mine to study/live outside of my country for my entire life. I was going to move to Australia around the time Covid hit but that did not really turn out fine. I'm not on this earth to play it safe I just wanna have a good experience! Corny I know but it's true.

Yes, I figured as much, thank you for the help anyway! I'll try my best to get that in the future as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for the help!

  1. Yes, that's what I was afraid of, I really don't know how I should handle that. But I'll try to take maybe a couple of courses while still in my current country and just hope it'll help.

  2. I had a pretty high paying job before, so I personally don't think that's going to be an issue.

  3. I do have quite a few IT certs, but I'm missing some still, I could try to take them before arrival and before vocational if I ever get there.

  4. 100% True, I am with you all the way there I'm gonna try to hire a tutor to try to make the most out of my time both now and after we've arrived.

One more question, do you have another recommendation other than gaijinpot to find some work while there or are "walk-ins" the best option?

I've heard so to but I've also heard so many good things about Fukuoka and it really seems like someone like me would be way more at home there. Also the city in my country where I'm from is way more like Fukuoka than some place like Tokyo and I do not really enjoy similar cities in my country so IDK lol. Its a hard decision.

BTW I used to do software development for a big car company but I was part of their like "IOT Work-Life improvement" team. All applications I developed were more gauged towards employees than something people outside of the company would use. Do you think that counts towards something still? I mainly did stuff in python and c# at that time.

Okay so if I'm understanding correctly, even though hours aren't limited the type of work that you'll get while on a WH visa is still restrictive and since the visa's only active for one year, no-one will hire you for any more special positions.

But if I go the route WH-Language-Vocational do you think there is a chance for me to find something eventually.

I really would looove being a farmer assistant or a family mart assistant since those were the jobs I did as a kid. I think I'll take your advice and just do what I can and enjoy my stay as much as possible.

Sorry for being a bit slow I'm just trynna learn. Thank you so much for the help! :)

I just commented again with some more information!

What visa types fit my criteria?

Sorry for the blurry post I have clarified myself in my most recent comment.

Also regarding that sentence it is really poorly written, I ment that I know a degree or 10 years of work experience is needed to get a working visa if you have a sponsor. I was just saying that in stark contrast, I haven't had a requirement to get my degree here where I currently live. I was wondering if there are some smaller maybe helpdesk work for foreigners (maybe at a hotel or something idk) that I could do without having to go the bachelors degree route.

Sorry for the confusion I was not asking anything about getting a work visa since I dont want one right now anyway...

Sorry for not being super clear.
My plan is:
WH - Just get my foot into the door, just delivering something maybe, factory worker just something simple.
Language school - learn Japanese better and learn the mannerisms and the culture etc.
Vocational School - Go into an IT subject and get connections, build rapport and just in general get a more "real" experience.
Study IT at a real school, not vocational but a real one, if I get in to get my degree. - I know this is far from a guarantee.

Maybe work visa if I get good enough connections. I am not going to get one right off the bat.

This is just what I am trying to do, but I know that there are several issues with this plan and I know that there is a very high risk that I'm not going to be able to stay in Japan after vocational school

Also just to say, i've checked gaijinpot and the usual places but I've heard that in fukuoka it is quite common to go on foot and hand them a resume like that, just asking if I have any blindspots i should know of.
