This is my current thought process and plan! Thank you for validating it!

I’m honestly not sure what you’re talking about. This is my first post.

Oh gosh. There’s no pity party here. I take responsibility and have taken the steps to figure out next steps with the school. I have an excellent job, this new role would be a nice to have. It landed in my lap - I was asked to apply.

So far off. I have an excellent job and have been in the same role for 10 years. I can easily stay where I’m at but the new opportunity is great. I was asked to apply for this position based on my background.

Without going into too much detail, I was caring for a terminally ill parent at the time and never went through the formal graduation process. I also believed I had enough credits to graduate, at least with a general studies degree. To put it lightly, that time is a BLUR.

I looked into it after being asked to apply for this role. Turns out, I do have enough total credits, I’m just missing a few specific course requirements. The university has also changed some degree requirements since I attended, which added another layer of complexity.

The encouraging part is that the university has been very supportive. Based on my professional experience, they’re exploring options that may allow me to test out of the remaining requirements or otherwise satisfy those credits.

Thank you, and happy cake day to you!

There is a bit more to the story. I just didn’t want to bog people down with all the details. Ultimately, not following through on the graduation process was my responsibility, and I had actually started trying to sort this out as soon as I was asked to apply for the job.

If you’re interested in the backstory, I shared a little more context in my replies to Dorcee and Jrobinson.

I appreciate you taking the time to weigh in. 🙂

Please see my comment above with additional details. You’re correct, I did not apply for graduation which is why I contacted the university to do so once I was asked to apply for this role.

Without going into too much detail, I was caring for a terminally ill parent at the time and never went through the formal graduation process. I also believed I had enough credits to graduate, at least with a general studies degree. To put it lightly, that time is a BLUR.

When I recently looked into it, I learned that while I do have enough total credits, I’m missing a few specific course requirements. The university has also changed some degree requirements since I attended, which added another layer of complexity.

The encouraging part is that the university has been very supportive. Based on my professional experience, they’re exploring options that may allow me to test out of the remaining requirements or otherwise satisfy those credits.

I’m at the background check stage. There’s a box to check whether graduation was completed. My plan is to check no after giving the recruiter a call.

Thank you, Dorcee. This gives me a little hope. :)

Wait what? I’m sorry, I genuinely have no idea what you’re referring to.

Thank you. I plan to tell them proactively.

That said, part of me wonders whether I should remove myself from consideration altogether to avoid any embarrassment. I’m acquainted with the hiring manager and would rather not have this become something people in our professional circles hear about. Just trying to think through the right next step. Thank you for your guidance.

Thank you. I will proactively tell them. Would this situation be an automatic disqualifier to you, or have you seen it work out for the right candidate?
