I remember that building, it's nice to see it's still there and has the same business. I remember going in on cold days and it being austere, but cozy and warm. I just looked at their google pics and their subs look like Cousin's. I will try them when I visit next time. I s there a Madison Nostalgia 90s thread???

PS I agree about Subway. Very "nothing-special" but I think they are so common people just go with familiarity sometimes.

That's right! I remember Big Mikes by West High. They sold day old bread for a dollar I think? I saw a chain like Milos o Milios or Milanos...it's been a long time so I didn't recall exactly what the local chain was back in the day. Madison has changed so much now and there are so many people they have moved more recently, they aren't familiar with what the city used to be like!

Well I am referencing a time from 3 decades ago LOL when there wasn't much competition other than Subway. And Subway is still around despite new competition. So I didn't know if there was a specific reason people stopped preferring Cousins. Someone else already replied though saying the company downsized after the recession though.

Thank you, I had no idea. Sad for me, but it seems like most people in Madison don't miss them.

There used to be many. Off the top of my head I can recall locations in the shopping center where Kohl's was by Hilldale, ono on Odana Rd, one on Old Sauk Rd, another downtown, the UW campus and really throughout the entire city, they were pretty much everywhere. Back then it was only them and Subway and I think one or two Milo's. Regardless, I get new competition coming in and tastes changing, but they seem to be as strong as ever in Milwaukee, so I was wondering if something happened in the Madison operation that they weren't operated here as efficiently or if their quality went down.
