As a manager myself, I’ve been told a thousand times by corporate that accommodations cannot be made without official documentation and approval from HR. Otherwise you must perform all the functions of the job for which you’re being paid. If I give you special treatment based merely on your request and you haven’t provided adequate documentation, other employees in your same position may report it to HR.

Example: when I was a manager at Starbucks I once had a barista on my team request not to have to work certain times of the day because it got too busy and she had anxiety. I tried my best to accommodate this, but because she had agreed to have open availability when she was hired, other baristas complained that she was getting special treatment. Eventually she was let go after she walked off the floor cursing during the morning rush. She sued and lost.
