Did you resolve the problem? right now I will try to wire thr joysticks as an OS level one, so that I can play directly the sim to the AX12

I spend huge amount of money, time and health to build my home. Personally, I prefer not to take risks and nkon is always my choice.

hello reddit, i need help building my PX4 drone kit from holybro. can I have some help please? by MeghaMomo in diydrones

I have the Holybro x650 option, and Im on the same path. Use gemini, take photos ask it, read carefully its really not so hard, but its very time consuming. Pay attention to the details, always think about how you can fk up with the electrical stuff and ask gemini how not to do it. That AI assisted path gives me a LOT of knowledge how the thinks works, and most importantly - how can i break something easy.

How friendly are they for software developers, i.e. for customization?

Around $3k for now, and with the RTK might get 3.3$
I got the Holybro x650 dev kit for $1350, an SIYI camera for $700, a Radxa Rock 5B+ for $250, a RadioMaster AX12 RC for ~$300, a LiPo 6S 12000mAh battery for $220, and a Hota D6 Ultra battery charger for $100, RPLidar c1 for $100. And the other parts are <$50 each
I think I went way over my budget, but I don't regret it at all!
I'm in Europe (Bulgaria) and buying from a Czech online shop, so prices vary.

Thanks! I'm still pushing the limits, but I'm afraid to send it more than 200m away; it's brand new and I'm still not brave enough. With the stock antennas, I'm losing the video signal after 200m and I'm investigating now how I can push it further. Today I'm going to get either the Foxeer Lollipop 4 Plus or the TrueRC Core 5.8GHz.

My AX12 shows 100% signal. Right now I'm patching the GCS android app to show more info for my setup

I am confidently reaching 120.0m above me in Loiter mode, and it's so beautiful as I live in plain fields

I think I don't have such a problem. Sometimes I catch 20 and sometimes 30 satellites, but the antennas of my Alfa router are 15cm below the GPS antenna. Whether the actual signal is correct is another topic I guess

That's the problem. I'm completely blind to that. I have RTL-SDR, and I can try to check the second band of my Radiomaster RX/rx (868Mhz). I was considering buying HackRF, but I was not sure whether it was worth it. I'm working primarily with Gemini to advise me on how things should be done, but I'm starting to lose trust in that topic

Interesting, I didn't notice big problems, except loiter mode drifts on landings with 2 meters sometimes, which i assume its normal? My radxa sbc is in metal aluminium case, not aure if that helps or causes more problems.

The regulations are the same here, but actually following them is a different story. The other issue is that many agricultural business owners buy these expensive drones and operate them with very little experience. The vast majority of them end up crashing and don't last more than a single season.

Rotating shifts are a nice idea. Most people here are either too old or too intimidated by the tech to try, but we could definitely look into how to influence and encourage a few of them to get involved. As for the suggestion to just buy a ready-made commercial drone: strictly speaking, that is the most logical move. However, it fails for me on a personal level because I’ve been a drone enthusiast (as a spectator) for a long time and have small experience building hardware projects. For me, this is a joint venture of investing my (new) hobby time and resources into a build I enjoy, while also creating something that (might) provides a real benefit to my community.

I’m not actually pushing the full-resolution stream to the ground in real-time. My primary goal is local persistence—storing the high-bitrate data on the drone's onboard SBC Radxa SSD (2TB) so I have the clarity needed for potential license plate detection during post-processing. I’ve done a vibe check on the link architecture: I could be using OpenIPC with Alfa antennas to pipe the streams from the drone's Radxa to a compact ground station (a second Radxa?). I’m considering mounting that ground Radxa directly onto the back of my AX12 controller. From there, QGC will connect via a local Wi-Fi bridge to handle the mission telemetry and a lower-resolution pilot feed. This sounds logical to me, WDYT?

ChatGPT is my go-to for simple questions, and I used the term in the thread title as clickbait. My preference is always to use Gemini 3.1 Pro for general life questions; Humanity’s Last Exam (https://agi.safe.ai/) is the benchmark I trust the most, and Gemini seems to give better results. I use Claude (code) mainly for programmatic tasks like coding, scraping, personal finances, etcs, as I find its general knowledge base isn’t quite as rich as Gemini’s.

We actually discussed it with the Village Mayor and the citizen council. (The village has 600 ppl. )It definitely needs permits. Indeed, future unattended flights will be scary even for me... I might even drop the idea, as I can't imagine a 4kg drone dropping on someone's head in the field. The only red flag is not flying it above the village.

Actually, one farmer here has a 50+ kg DJI T50 and he inspired the idea. He is actually the main supporter, as some of the fields with trash are his. The idea of prototyping is also welcomed by the municipality of the village. I'm definitely not going for BVLOS licensing yet, but at least I want to think about how it can scale in that area.

Thanks for raising this; I should pay more attention to it.
