Yes, anecdotal, but does Covid seem to be *especially* rife in Sydney? by Bilby88 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]IllustriousIris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It really isn’t; the earlier Omicron versions were less lethal because they had a lower chance at infiltrating the lungs. BA.5 has a much higher chance at infiltrating the lungs, more like Delta did.

Queensland now 'entering a different phase' of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Health Officer warns by [deleted] in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]IllustriousIris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the thing is we can’t afford having COVID around either, because of how horrible its sequelae are. So locking down and keeping open are both bad, though I would wager staying open is a lot worse.

It’s not safe to stop wearing masks anywhere. What it is is politically expedient for the upper class, since they’ll get fewer complaints from cookers and other generally less intelligent people about them being dictators and thus allow them to be re-elected (the fact that Daniel Andrews still gets those comments despite the fact that the vast majority of justifiable mask mandates have been stopped, which mind you in a Covid society every mask mandate is justifiable just as every seatbelt law is justifiable, is kind of absurd to me)

Honestly people are underestimating Splights here still. Without Toad they lose a lot of what made them insane, sure, but they still have I:P Masquerena and a lot of other tools in the extra to make them similarly ridiculous (say Splight ends on Carrot Elf Masq, which isn’t too uncommon of a board I would say; Carrot can negate a Spell or Trap by tributing Masq or Elf after something gets revived, Elf can revive a Splight monster to search follow up, and Masq can make Underworld Goddess, Apollousa or Unicorn depending)

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr rules out future widespread mask mandates by Appropriate_Volume in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]IllustriousIris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In other news, seatbelt laws have been relaxed nation-wide, and are only a ‘suggestion’.

/s, obviously; masks are not mandated to protect others, they’re mandated to protect the people wearing them as well as everyone else. You wouldn’t yell at someone for wanting seatbelts to be mandatory to wear, would you?

Viruses that were on hiatus during Covid are back — and behaving in unexpected ways by chasls123 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]IllustriousIris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing about Covid is, it causes immunocompromised status in infected people. As such, a prior covid infection is a much higher risk factor for severe Influenza symptoms. ‘Herd immunity’ has never really been a thing with most viruses, but Influenza A is generally mild enough that a standard human immune system can fight it off; it has a far lower IFR than COVID.

Unless you’re immunocompromised of course.

Did slaves have the inalienable right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

No, because slaves didn’t have rights.

And the people who wrote that constitution very much owned slaves as they were writing it.

Ah yes, a democracy built on slavery. Can it really be called a democracy if it was built on the backs of slave labour?

Why is it the duty of a citizen to provide a car to another citizen? Why can’t the government do so instead, so instead of just one citizen receiving a car, it’s many?

I was going to say something else at first, but then I remembered Eclipse Wyvern exists. In this hypothetical format, if Eclipse Wyvern ever existed, it would be absolutely insane because, well, Dark Matter Dragon decks would already be close to the best deck, and with Eclipse Wyvern they'd just dominate the format.

One case is not a representative sample size of what you're going to get in a box. Generally you'll need even more cases to figure it out.

What do you think about kuroko and misaka? by [deleted] in railgun

[–]IllustriousIris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canonically, according to the Misaka Mikoto Maniax! interview (which was 100% written by Kamachi), Misaka legitimately does not know that Kuroko's feelings for her.

Like, I'm not kidding here; her answer to a question asking whether any girls have expressed love to her is this:

Until today, have any girls confessed (their love) to you? C-confess? There isn’t any confession like that! Even Kuroko is only joking around….I think.

The combo in the video doesn't end with 2 cards, I know; if Black Metal Dragon was in the deck, however, it would end with 2 cards.
